Calling all A/C gurus (i.e. Pat)
« on: April 20, 2005, 09:50:06 PM »

A guy IM'd me today saying he had two full A/C systems ready to part out, so I am going to finally get my parts.  I am going to get a new receiver/dryer from bfcase for cheap cheap and do it right...

...but, my question is, don't I need to convert to the new stuff or something?  They make kits right?  Do I need to remove my condensor to have it refitted?

Thanks.

You are good Ryan.
Your car uses R134 which is the current standard.

I think you are confused with R12 which they stopped using around 1993.

Long story short you are good to go, no conversion needed.

Shows what I get for listening to James....   :o

Thanks Pat.  So, just squeeze those parts in there, new receiver/dryer, thread seal everything and take it to a shop to get it recharged?

Yes install all of your parts and take it to a good shop.  One area to pay special attention to is the o-rings.  Since you are going to all this trouble you really should put fresh o-rings in all of the area's that you have disconnected.

Will do.  I am actually starting to adapt your way of thinking on this stuff...do it right the first time!

...or the second time...which isn't such a bad alternative either, I find I learn a lot more that way....at a cost of course. :)

When are you coming back?  You gotta take a ride in the rocket car man.  I had the best compliment ever three weeks ago, the guy is a Capt, used to race sport bikes, and now owns a Ducati, BMW 1150, and large MX 450... he was in the car, and said, "You know, when I started racing motorcycles, I found cars became boring....but this, THIS is NOT boring!"

might as well get a new orifice tube while you are at it... and the craft shop should be able to do the vacum and recharge for about $80.

Receiver dryer already quoted...

O-ring kit - includes the A/C special oil and tons of o-rings - $20.00 for you (or less maybe - I'll have to double check but I know I sold one for $25.00 recently)
