Hi Everyone,
The organizers of DATR 07 are putting together a huge garage sale to kick off the upcoming summer season. We are looking to you for your donations to put in this sale.

Please let me know if you think you have some item(s) that you would like to donate - We are happy to have one of the committee members come by to pick up said item(s) if necessary.

If you have questions concerning this sale please feel free to contact Lindsey at 233-4190, Nick at 331-6882 or Currie at 651-4202.

Date/Time is TBD.

Thank you!

I'm planning to start going through my closets and storage area too.  I'm sure there is plenty of stuff I haven't used in years.

Since we will be moving soon, I am starting to clean out closets. So I am sure that Juan and I will be able to come up with a few items. Let me know when you are planning on having it and also when you need the items by.

How's about this idea???

If there are items within someone's house that they cannot merely DONATE, why not give them the option to rent space from DATR to sell their stuff. Say for instance a $35 fee to bring anything that you want to get money out of. That $35 goes to the fundraising for DATR, and the person gets to bring their stuff to sell.

The USO at Navy bases has "community yardsales" ALL the time. They charged a $35 booth fee and you pretty much brought what you needed to sell.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, what's about a car wash?? Or maybe getting volunteers from the group to pump gas for people at gas stations for TIPS ONLY!! Jenn participated in the gas-pumping thing for my ships homecoming from our second deployment and they racked in over $400 in only 4 hours.

Just some ideas.

Hi Juan,
Our plan is to hold this before DATR.

If someone has car stuff to sell they can purchase a spot for the swap meet.  I think trying to organize it so everyone could donate stuff at one 719ers swap meet booth would be way too confusing to try to determine who had what.

Thanks for the suggestion!

DATR 2007 Garage Sale
« Reply #19 on: February 20, 2007, 06:27:54 PM »

Okay, apparently there was some sort of miscommunicati on there... I wasn't referring to having a "garage sale" at DATR. I was referring to this particular sale "to kick off the upcoming summer season."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this IS an attempt to raise money FOR DATR, right? Well, not everyone can donate stuff to take a total loss for it. Therefore, the "organizers" of DATR could allow people to come and sell their stuff alongside the donated stuff. For someone to do this, they would have to pay a fee for the publicity (i.e. the $35 mentioned before).

*** For the people that STILL don't understand ***
Most of you know that Jenn and I have been selected to transfer to Hawaii later this year. Obviously, we are NOT going to be able to take everything along because of the size of place we are going to get (we did find a 1500sf townhouse for ONLY $2100/mo,   )... A lot of the stuff that we are going to have to part with are rather large items that we cannot simply donate, i.e. a sofa, a sectional sofa, a love seat, a rather large oak desk, a 44 gal pentagon fish tank, etc, etc. Due to the amount of money we have invested in some of these particular items, we cannot simply just donate them.

This garage sale would be an ideal opportunity to rid ourselves of a lot of stuff..

Oh yeah, if you think that $35 isn't enough, then make it a certain percentage of all sales.... say 10% of all sales go to DATR.

The garage sale will happen before DATR so "swap meet" style might be a little much for a garage sale set up.

I personally see this approach turning into too much coordination for a driveway and more than I am really willing to coordinate.

I like the idea, but I have my doubts as to the amountof money that can be raised. I still suggest asking Baker to have a similar event in conjunction with the kickball tourney.

The point of the garage sale is to get the communities money, not trade it around amongst us  ;-) .

I think hauling a bunch of stuff to Denver is a PITA.  We can pick it up and get it sorted wherever we hold it.

As another option, we can have it at Nick's house in Rockrimmon

no, no, no ... I totally get it, but why not have SEVERAL of these and make one of them at the kickball tourney where people would WANT to buy crap to help us?

I would think something like a little bake sale or something would go over better at something like that!  But you never know I guess.
