Well it's fucking official
« on: January 10, 2007, 05:50:00 PM »

God either A. Hates me, or B. Really wants me to buy new wheels.

SO, i heading south on I83 on the way to Ted's Montana grill to grab some lunch, as i am turning left onto Briargate (near PF Changs, etc) I start moving into the right lane so i can turn into the shopping center.  Loe and behold right as i come out from behind the car in front of me i hit the fucking grand canyon of pot holes with my front right wheel.

And oh boy is it bent to all fucking hell.  Its so bent it makes my left front wheel, which had a light vibration already, feel perfectly round.  Its so bent, it is fucking audible, as in you can hear the light thud as the wheel rotates.

On that note, im going to continue being pissed off.  Also, i was curious if anyone knew if the state is liable for something like this?  The last snow storm tore up that road pretty bad, and this pothole is right in the line of a lot of traffic, its seriously about 2 feet wide and maybe 10-14 inches deep with the wall part i hit being literally up and down.

Aye, your insurance ... But I think the city needs to get their asses out there on the roads, there are holes in the middle of I 25 that are ginormous

Sorry to hear about this.... but maybe this "god" works in mysterious ways, who knows? I think you may have some troubles trying to get the state to pay for anything, particularly if your car is anything other than 100% STOCK.
If your car is lowered or you are driving around on bigger rims with low pro tires, that isn't the states fault...

Try your insurance company like others have mentioned... But remember that if you file a claim, you risk having your insurance premiums going up!

No, insurance is a horrible idea.  You recall i work for progressive yes?  When you submit claims for things like wheels being bent from potholes, its paid out under collision.  If you have a payout under collision you get an at fault accident surcharge places on your policy.

Either way i have a 500 ded anyways, so even if i did go that route, i would get nothing.

I recall something about someone hitting a part of the road on I25 that wasnt covered by a steel plate like it was supposed to be?  Or is this just a different issue altogether?

Well my car is 100% stock, they are different wheels than come with the car, but they're the same 17x7.5 size, and they come from Audi.  Honestly i imagine im going to have trouble getting them to pay for it anyways, im just frustrated.

I can understand your frustration. I was going to be on the list of the Snow Performance group buy, but instead I get to spend money fixing my wife's Pacifica after I slid into a curb last Friday.

I'm honestly at the point of just being financially stupid and putting the Coilovers and the 18's and tires on credit and calling it fucking done.

edit: removed the quitting, didnt make sense, not sure why it was there.

Yeah thats my parents friends Paul and Cheryl, known em since i was wee.  I've actually already had all the wheels straightened once, so i cant do it again.  I basically just have to buy new wheels.  But thanks for the headsup, i just wish it were an option lol ;-)

Just wait until spring after the snow has stopped and most of the potholes have been fixed

BTW, I know exactly the pothole you are talking about, I drive by there every morning on my way to work.  There are so many potholes in that section of road, I'm almost about to change the route I drive to work to avoid that area for the next week or so until they finally fix it.

I did see the city fixing a huge pothole I ran through in the intersection of Union and Austin Bluffs last week.  They had police there directing traffic and lanes blocked off as well.  I can only hope the same treatment will be coming to other areas soon.

I don't understand how the roads can be torn up so badly from a snowstorm, back home we actually got consistent snow throughout the winter and they actually did use snow plows there.

Because this city never actually properly repaves the roads.  They always half as it, basically the scrape the top up a bit, not actually removing any material, and then just lay a fresh 1/4 inch thick coat of new asphalt down.  So when it snows real bad, the ice plays havoc on the streets and takes (literally) chunks of the road with it.

Most of it is frost heave and the fact that a lot of our roads sit or cross old seasonal river beds that have natural springs under them. That and all of the water from the snow melt is further washing everything out.

They have been using a quick fix for some of the ones on Union. It isn't going to last though, that whole road is fucked from Pikes Peak to Constitution. It has gotten to the point where i won't drive through puddles anymore for fear of what is hiding underneath.

When Kelly and I hit one on Colorado Ave. it cut the entire side wall of her tire. The city replaced the tire at full price and we never even had to claim it.

Just a little FYI, you need to get up there and get a photo ASAP before they fill it in. Second take photo's of your car and get it up to AUDI for an estimate of repair and allignment. Then call or go down to the city street or city insurance claims office and file this with them.

The Colorado Springs City Council is all over the street department right now telling them in a meeting two days ago (This is unacceptable) so you could use the City Councils statement to the claims person.

Let me know if you need help with this because Kelly and I already went through it with them.

Fuck it, I am buying a Jeep. I already ruined the shit out of my front spoiler this winter and don't have the $$ for a beater car.

keri, Jeeps are beater cars.  If you think I'm joking, I'm not.  You can pick up a 1997 Cherokee for about $3000 or less.  That's freaking cheap.

I just got my 1995 Grand Cherokee for a lot less than $3000.  Not the pimpest car every, but gets the job done.
