Turbo sources....
« on: October 21, 2006, 08:06:53 AM »

I am looking for some good pricing on turbos.  I have not decided which turbo I am looking for yet.  One I am considering is a GT28RS.  This is still in VERY early planning stages.  This next summer/fall (2007) I am looking into turbo'ing either a Yamaha Apex or Phazer Mountain Lite (snowmobile).

I have not decided which one yet, and I am still in the process of funding this project.

Right now I was hoping that you guys might have some good info on turbos and the associated parts.

The Apex is based off the the R1 (same motor).  This sled has already been turbo'd by many, but most buy a kit and just bolt it up.  Kits go from $5k-$8k.  I KNOW this can be done for much cheaper.

Has anyone bought a turbo from these guys?

I don't want to run much more than 15 PSI (stock valve springs will not hold much more).  It would also HAVE to be ran on pump fuel.

Here are the two sleds that I am trying to decide between.  I am leaning towards the Phazer (smaller of the two...), mostly because I don't do major (crazy) hill climbing, and do more "boondocking"/playing and jumping.  Cost is also a factor.  The Phazer is $4k less, which is enough to turbo it and do some light weight mods.

Phazer:

Thanks Taylor.  I was hoping you might chime in.  I might contact you if you don't mind when I get ready to do this.  I am still trying to size a turbo for the Phazer.  I want early boost.  Nothing with big lag.

dont forget these guys.  although their GT28RS is like 50$ more, i would have to say these guys know their shizzle. and could set you up with what you need.

GT28RS is WAY too big for a 1 litre engine.

If you do it yourself, what are you going to do for engine management? Just buy the kit, its cheaper in the long run.

according to my calculations a gt28rs would work for a 1000cc motor pushing 15 psi of boost at 11,000 rpm.  it would be a top end monster but snowmobiles aren't cars.

Well, suit yourself. I happen to know a little something about turbocharging motorcycle engines, and I can tell you right now that the GT28 is way too big for a 1 liter engine at any RPM.

My turboed CBR600 F3 on Meth

o please tell me thats wrc style anti lag lovett!!!!! air injection is so fucking cool!!!

also if he didnt really care about how long the turbo lasted he could set up a nasty anti lag system that would make this turbo actually usable...

Actually, those are thermocouples for monitoring exhaust temps. We did run anti-lag on that engine, but we never used it in race b/c there was no need. That Aerodyne VNT turbo was badass.

No it's not WAY too big.

BTW... buying a kit is not cheaper.  Many of these kits are $7k+.

Cheapest that a kit could be had for is about $5k.

Here is a great movie if anyone is interested,  I believe he (Darko) is running a GT28RS (EDIT: he is running a G-2871)

(4 teasers are at the bottom)

Here is one just for fun... Many of the sleds in here are a turbo Apex...
(you should be able to tell from the sound).
