Ok, here is my biggest concern... you are talking about a pretty damn high end performance tire. If this is going to be your only set of wheels, then you need to be looking at an all season tire... period... do not try to use summer tires in the winter unless you enjoy wrecking your car.

They are UHPAS. they're all seasons.

Your other option is to make your current wheels winter only and buy some real winter/ ice tires. Then save a bit more and buy what you really want after the thaw. It sound more expensive, but think about wrecking your car, which sounds cheaper in the long run?

I agree with you, with the exception of what i want and what i can afford or justify are two wholly different stories.  Think of it this way.  I'm sure plenty of you would like a 2007 RS4, so would you go out and buy a 1986 honda civic and then "save up" for 4 or 5 years so you can get the RS4, the whole time having to deal with the dregs of a car.  No, probably not.  Some might, but i'm not some.

I've always fancied myself a reasonable person, and i'm just looking for a reasonable solution to the problem.  And frankly, anything over about 450 a wheel is not reasonable for me.

I'm also not sure you guys understand how much i abhor my current wheels.  I'm sick of seeing them, i'm especially sick of cleaning them, and honestly i never really liked them in the first place.  I hate chunky wheels with big fat spokes.  Granted i liked them a lot more than the stock S4 wheels (hideous), so i didnt complain.  But i've had this car for 2 years, ive always said i wanted wheels, and now i have the financial means, i've found something that i like.
