All VWOTG stuff goes here...

We have already run the course and I am sure Brett is very clear on what the feelings are around here so let's not rehash it all again in a new post.

As an observer it appears as though there hasn't been enough planning time.  This is gonna be one small show.

There were a lot of hoops jumped through at the last minute by a lot of people last year.  Last year wasn't no DATR but it was "ok"

Why not just say what you mean, no fun!  Everyone just sit in a chair and be quiet.

You have to be kidding me.

Mk1 = Rabbit, Jetta 1 and Scirocco 1?  All together?

Mk2= A2 Golf, A2 Jetta, and Scirocco II?

etc etc.

"Yeah - Type 1, put the Bugs, Ghias, Things, and kit cars all together.  They are all Type 1s."  That makes as much sense.

You have a class for Passats seperately, but not Golfs and Jettas?  Not that I was planning on taking home a trophy (never happen) but this is recockulous.

I have got to be reading those classes wrong.

There were how many HUNDRED Water Cooled VW's there last year and all you can muster up is Six Water Cooled classes.

Let me give you a quick lesson here:
The definition of "lame"

Lame: pathetically lacking in force or effectiveness; "a feeble excuse

Here's your Cluepon since you guys are so far out of touch with reality in the VW Scene, I'm in the process of organizing a Rocky Mountain/Midwest Regional R32 GTG that just so happens to plan on attending VWOTG as part of their itinerary.  That means you will have at least 25-30, if not more, R32's rolling into VWOTG Sunday May 15th provided everything goes as planned. I have been diligently promoting this event to the R32 guys on VW Vortex and there are several people traveling from out of state.  BTW..you're welcome.
I'm not telling you to create an R32 class, what I'm saying is to pull your head out of the sand and start catering to your participants.. .aka the people that make your show a "show"  People asked for a more comprehensive class breakdown for Bug In last year and the staff set up a more sensible classing system.  Same goes for DATR, in fact DATR has probably the best Classing system in the state right now...and it's based off inputs from the participants over the past years.  Why you guys refuse to acknowledge who makes your show a success baffles me to no end.  Don't say it's money for trophies because at one point this year you were excluding anyone from 719 the chance to sponsor class trophies.  I suspect desperation was the only reason that standard was changed.  Then there's the issue of Scott asking to pay you money in order to put DATR flyers in the VWOTG goodie bags...again DENIED.

Maybe I should have also included the definition of pathetic in my lesson plan.

You guys never cease to amaze me, you just don't get it

I'm trying to have a positive attitude about this situation without my employer receiving anymore "letters from mom"     But the level of stupidity is making me want to puke in my mouth.  I really would like to use the "level of ignorance", that would be more politically correct...but "ignorance" implies that you just don't know any better. I would expect something as pathetic as this out of a first year show with inexperienced planners..such is not the case since this is the 11th annual show.  You guys know better than this, you're just stupid and it starts at the top of the food chain with your planning commitee.
And just so you know, this isn't a my show against your show thing.  In fact I am no longer involved with the planning of DATR except for some occasional consulting because of knowledge I have from the past years.  I make no decisions and have no vested interest in DATR.  This speech is coming from someone that would just like to see this show get back on track and be something to that people are excited about.  There aren't too many folks excited about the 11th Annual VWOTG.  The best part of VWOTG is socializing with friends (I know that's a hard concept to grasp with your current club affiliation), thanks to the poor planning involved with VWOTG most of my friends aren't even attending.  Multiply that scenario by about 50 (if not more) and you just lost a whole bunch of participants.

In spite of all this I'll still be there, why I don't really know... for the record.

P.S. When you copy and paste this to Lance & his Mom please ensure that all my "roll eyes" smilies are included.  It just wouldn't have the same impact without them.

Well I would think that based on the money these trophies brought in last year ($50 each) and the HUGE turnout of watercooled cars they would have been a bit more receptive to expanding not retracting.

I am not even going to discuss Bubba...

I plan to have a sit down with Jim at the show and explain to him how I feel about this. This will be my 4th year attending the show, and each year has gotten a little crappier. The funny part of that is the first year I saw VWOTG was the same year Lance was the President of VWEC. I will say without hesitation that it was a VERY impressive show to me. There were TONS of vendors, a prety good layout the college was a great spot and the show itself was run very smoothly. Hell when i asked Lance to give me some pointers on how to run a show he even supplied me with the documentation they used that year to get me started with DATR!

Of course just a few short months later the meltdown began.... and here we are... what a mess...

so as usual watercooled will make up the majority of the show entrants, yet have those pathetic classes, while the air cooled guy will have a class for every year bug ever built.

" first place for 59, split window, pre vietnam, crank start, two tone, steel wheel, super bad bug goes to"

that's how it usually goes, for about an hour and a half, then you pass out the 4 watercooled trophies which were hand selected by perhaps the most clueless person I know, geez I can't imagine why no one wants to show up again.

The best part is it's not even about the classes or trophies, in fact most the time when the real VW's on the green show was around at the college I didn't even enter the show, just parked my car and hung out with my friends all day.  But the integrity of it all is gone beyond repair, lets not forget the best of show watercooled car last year, a POS that didn't win it's class but won the whole show  The location is gone, the vibe is gone i'll be at home.  And my buddies who tavel from out of state every year will be at DATR not VWOTG, I suspect a lot of others will do the same.

In fact if I could pull it off without hurting this club or DATR I would organize a state wide boycott and i'm pretty sure i'd have a bit of an impact.  VWOTG is dead..

Like I said I'm still coming to the show despite my feelings.  And I am planning to bring a large group of R32's with me, again against my better judgement.  So maybe...if it wouldn't be asking too much of the Air Cooled hippies...do you think we could at least get our own designated parking area within the Water Cooled section?

I want to see this show succeed, why do you think I invested so much of my personal time in it last year (or course "thank you" wasn't part of the package) ..I've always enjoyed it and it's a great way to start off the summer.

I do not think that should be a problem I will ask tonight at the meeting I also found that you can sponsor a trophy this the Jim G but they is only on trophy per club, and if they get the other class sold they will add more class for expansion.

by the way thanks for commending me I knew I was going to take a lot a abuse for this but I think it was needed. I do not blame you for but them (Lance and mommy) out of your mind I would have been in jail if some one tried that on me. So I also commend you for taken the high road on that one.

I doubt you will see a sponsorship from 719 for this year..as you've noticed the enthusiasm level isn't peaking the meter right now.  And being denied in the beginning doesn't help the cause much.  That's just my personal thoughts, not speaking for the group.  If everyone here decides to pool their money and sponsor a trophy more power to them.

Ah hah..the truth comes out.   :-P   So when I speak of this madness that they were inflicting on me you know that it was a bunch of BS as well.  Trust me...I might not be Einstein but I'd like to think I'm a bit more intelligent than to fall into the trap that they were trying to set.

Ok, I called Jim Gardiner... here is the deal on group parking....

If you arrive together or let them know at the gate that you would like to park together, they will do what they can to facilitate that, but they are NOT going to make any special concessions or reserve space for any one group. After hearing his explanation on why that decision was made I an inclined to agree with him, and here is why. If a group tells you they want space for 15 cars, 9 times out of ten thy really only have 10-12 and they just want some extra space for canopies and BBQ grills. In this location they are planning space for 600 cars (which is realistic based on last year) and they have some restrictions placed on them by Heritage Square so they have chosen to focus on parking cars and leave the rest of the stuff to fall as it may.

Speaking of canopies I mentioned that in our conversation, and they are basically not going to allot any space for them. I told him what we planned on bringing and he told me that unless we were parking cars under them that there would be no space for that kind of setup. I did not tell him that I saw this causing MAJOR problems for them, but Brett if you read this before the meeting it needs to be addressed in a MAJOR MAJOR way or they are going to have some very pissed off people on show day.

Shit I am half tempted to buy a booth space with my own money just to set up the mother of all canopies and park the entire club under it...

Not surprised...of course they aren't going to do anything special because we are Water Cooled.  I will know practically to the exact number, give or take 1 or 2 cars, how many people would need the space.  Whatever...sam e BS, different year.
