do you knw why the Autobahn was originally built.......Hi tler decided he needed a "FAST" way to move his equipment from one end of Germany to the other, thus the Autobahn was born.

No, we dont need one in the US, there are enough accidents in the US without some major catastropohe of some 50 car pile ups and 100 people dead.  not to mention people here are already "in a hurry".  ya know, i have seen more accidents here in 3 months than i did in 3 Years in Germany.

sorry, i will get off the my high horse now.        :birdie:   (theres that emoticon again, i love it)

We need to set our drinking age to 16 and our driving age to 18.

i can agree with the driving age, but NOT the drinking age.  do you knwo that DUI's have actually doubled over the past 5 years in the US.

I think it is a good idea for the Autobahn in the U.S. However the roads would definitley have to improve first! I don't think accidents would be a big deal. After the first couple of years of people killing themselves, the itch to drive stupid would wear off... Also, the idiot street racers (like those on Academy on the weekends), can damn near have a free place to show off! Personally, I think the superior car is not the quartermiler, but the one that can haul ass from the Springs to Denver! :driver:

WRONG!!!! The autobahn construction was started in 1912-13, way before Old Adolf. In the 1930's Adolf realized the propaganda(commercial and military) usefulness of this roadway. But he, in no way had anything to do with the concept of the A/B.

I understand your point with the 50 car pileups and such... but I just did 4 and a half years in Germany and I never saw a 50 car pile up... I have seen some two and three car wrecks that look like plane crashes though... Since you have been to Germany, I know you know their annual vehicle inspections are much more strict than ours (just emissions and you are good! )... I don't mean start pouring new asphalt and have at it... I mean put the laws in order to hold drivers more accountable, then enforce higher standards on vehicle inspections, make the roads more safe for limitless speed zones, then designate some of them for "Autobahn-like" driving... Trust me, after several of these fools on the road get $2500 fines for insufficient brakes, others get unwrapped from around trees and only certain body parts make the funeral, and others just get 3 years of driving priviledges suspended for blatant stupidity and cars taken permanently (on the first offense), the message will be made... Germany doesn't have the DUI problems as bad as we do and their drinking age is almost nonexistent!  I just feel if you make the consequences as harsh and as fair as possible, it can be successful having an Autobahn...
