I understand your point with the 50 car pileups and such... but I just did 4 and a half years in Germany and I never saw a 50 car pile up... I have seen some two and three car wrecks that look like plane crashes though... Since you have been to Germany, I know you know their annual vehicle inspections are much more strict than ours (just emissions and you are good! :wink: )... I don't mean start pouring new asphalt and have at it... I mean put the laws in order to hold drivers more accountable, then enforce higher standards on vehicle inspections, make the roads more safe for limitless speed zones, then designate some of them for "Autobahn-like" driving... Trust me, after several of these fools on the road get $2500 fines for insufficient brakes, others get unwrapped from around trees and only certain body parts make the funeral, and others just get 3 years of driving priviledges suspended for blatant stupidity and cars taken permanently (on the first offense), the message will be made... Germany doesn't have the DUI problems as bad as we do and their drinking age is almost nonexistent! I just feel if you make the consequences as harsh and as fair as possible, it can be successful having an Autobahn...
