I am going to go check out an R/C car race on Sunday and I need to have a word with the folks who run it for DATR. It is at a school on noth Austin Bluffs, so not all that far away. IF anyone wants to join me, look at the pic to figure out where it is, I will probably leave me house at 9:30 and get there around 10ish:

Ok, that was an eye opening experience! If you think you have a lot of loot in your car, you should see some of the crazy stuff these guys have for little radio controlled cars!

That would have been cool to see. Unfortunately homework took priority. :-(

However, I did order a new engine for my Nitro TC3. I'm going overbore small block this time. Total displacement: 0.18 ci. That's 0.03 larger them my last. Oh, the reason I am replacing my 0.15 is because I didn't just break the chassis at the last BBQ, but broke the block too. That was an expensive crash. $210 in damage just from hitting a car tire.

I took it out when Nate was around later. I ran it under a car tire. The bumper went right under the tire, but the tallest part (the engine) hit and stopped the car instantly. Broke the chassis, engine (didn't know it until I took the car apart Saturday), and killed all four drive gears. I wasn't even going that fast.

It did happen but, far I know neither Scott or I took pictures. These guys (MARCAR) have a really nice set up. It's an R/C club here in town, but they have members from all over Colorado. These guys are pretty advanced drivers, I only saw one person spin out the whole time I was there, and these cars were probably moving around 35mph on the straights and in the turn 10-15. Pretty impressive.

I didnt see anyone running electric just nitro and no buggy as there was not a dirt track just pavement.

I saw a guy yesterday smack into the wall during qualifying at full speed! The car hit, flipped twice and landed upside down. The corner marshall flipped it over and off he went again. After the race I walked over and had a look, he cracked the body pretty good and had to repalce one wheel and one coilover (yes these have little coilovers on them), but the rest of the car was in perfect shape. Total repair cost was estimated to be around $75 by the owner.

Dude, most of these guys race nationally... they have 8 foot trailers PACKED with spares. Most had work benches, generators, more tools than I use on a real car and like 15-20 sets of wheels... un-frickin' real!

They even had a pit guy with fuel, and a laser thermomter to check motor temp... apparently anything over about 235 was bad.

Was it 325, or 235? I have been told that 325 is the temperature threshold. You try and tune for temps below that.

I use an onboard thermocouple that will record peak temperature. It was a very good purchase.
