We need to go on a drive.

Let's start planning a drive for the May-June timeframe. I was going to pick a date and say "be there" but I decided to make this a group project - hopefully greater involvement in planning will encourage higher participation in the event.

I don't know if I missed anything while I was in Cali, but the last big drive I remember was back in 2003 I think, so that means it's time for another one. I was thinking of pretty much the same thing - maybe even the same route that we took before. That route had a great variety of terrain and scenery, and a nice little river to stop at, in the middle (literally for Robb and the green Caddy).

I propose we plan on leaving around 10:00, have a picnic near the halfway point of the drive, then drive back and still have time to hit the GTG.

Let the bickering commence...

last fall i took 24 out to buena vista, stopped for lunch, headed south on 285 to poncha springs, went east on 50 to canon city, and then took 115 north all the way home.  fun drive.

The VWOTG drive is more of a destination-type thing. This is more of a leisure cruise.

Well VWOTG is going to suck again is that en excuse?

The drive we did was 115 to Canon, then to Buena, then back on 24 with stops every 45 minutes for Lovette to put something back together.

I believe I actually planned out that route.
Cayon City via 115, back up north via 50, pickup 24 go through Woodland park and down to the Springs.
It was an ALL day event so if you guys do it plan accordingly..a nd btw you should do it.  If you are complaining about 20 bux for gas sell your VW and buy a Chevy.  :P

I propose that we take 24 to 9 and go all the way to Steamboat.... the drive is both gorgeous and amazingly fun, plus I am sure that most of you have probably not driven it so it would be something new and exciting.

Even Chris Cox agrees that the drive is killer.... thoughts? In the spirit of Dan's regular BBQ's we could stop along the way for a nice long lunch or something too!

I'm down for a drive, but i vote we do something that has lots of twisties.  I would prefer a shorter drive if possible, because frankly $3 a gallon is hard to justify for a scenic drive ;-).

Well, pretty much anything with "lots of twisties" will invlolve at good chunk of your gas tank, so just plan for a refill somewhere along the route and things will be cool... the scenic part is what makes it fun!
