Welp, what I thought was just a problem when I went on long trips decided to show its ugly ass face today during typical city traffic.  My EPC light came on a couple times throughout the day and then cleared itself once I restarted the car.  On the way back to the Academy, I shifted from 3rd to 4th under light acceleration and the fucking EPC and CEL came on...wtf!?  Has anyone had any experience with this or know what I should do?

I have no idea what's causing the problem.
The best advice I can give you is to have someone scan it with a VAG-COM and see what codes were set.  (Gonna need to do that anyway)

Yea, see I had it VAG'ed by the dealership and they supposedly "fixed" it and I even took a look at it w/ a VAG earlier this year.  I guess I don't know what to look for or what has to be done to ensure the light doesn't come back.  If anyone can give me a hand next GTG, I'd appreciate it...

I'll bring my cable too if you are interested.  The EPC is the stability control thing, right?  I think I read about this problem on AW in the A4 section.  I think it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor.  Let me see if I can dig it up.

Hey, just because I'm 18 letters behind ya...  :P

Actually, from what i have read, it seems you boys with the S badges are much more CEL prone then us first letter of the alphabet cars are.  I've only thrown one CEL and that was because my blond ass forgot to plug the speed sensor into the tranny after I got the clutch in.

are your turbos spooling? do you have a boost gauge to determine if your turbos are still running? any other problems with the car to mention smoke from the exhaust or any strange sounds/smells?

have you changed your plugs lately? coilpacks? check all your vac lines to make sure you're not losing pressure. i noticed that my car went into limp mode when i blew the vac hose from the DV. simple fix and the car ran like a champ.

strange for your EPC light to come on, it normally means that you're losing traction with one of your wheels and the car is compensating for it. did you put on a spare or throw a different wheel on there?

from what i read, the EPC is the electronic power control, or engine management system.  i know for sure that it isn't a traction problem.  also, no smoke, smells, etc...i can hear the turbos spool, but then no power cause the car opens the wastegates.  oh well, i guess i'll just wait to have it vag'ed this weekend.

I'm changing my answer to the throttle body.  This is the best thread from three different A4 owners that have had a similar problem.

TB or TBB.  the TBB (throttle body boot) is notorious for tearing.  the TBB is just under the center engine cover and it connects the to charge pipes to the mani.  if it infact did tear you would possibly here a wooshing sound (air rushing out) but maybe not.  check it for tears just to see.  chances are that its not but that could have have sent the car into limp mode cause of the dramatic lose of boost.  a simple tear in the TBB could cause your turbos to over spool and then death would occur. i would avoid driving the car if i were you.  driving the car will not make the problem go away!!!!!!

My S4 has been acting up with CEL's for a while.  Nothing is wrong with the car, and every time i set up an appt to have it checked out, the fucker turns off.  I havent verified, but it could be an 02 sensor going out.

Bring it to a GTG (hint hint  :P) and we can VAG COM it.  Just let us know so that each member can bring their respective components of the whole.  i.e. Brando has the laptop, I have a cable, I guess Zach has a cable to...  I think Carlos is the only one with the complete kit.
