16V Distributor help
« on: April 03, 2006, 09:03:11 PM »

Hi everyone,

So i got the 16V leaky distributor problem. So i find a post on 16V.org about how to rebuild the distributor. Does anyone know where i can get the seals locally?> In the Springs area i hope. The size is 12x19x5,..Also, has anyone else in this forum done the rebuild with any success?

Thanks

The dealer does not carry the small seal inside the distibutor which is where the leak is. There isn't even a part number for it. They want you to buy a new distributor at a cost of $225.00 plus labor if you want them to install it. The bearing house here in Pueblo said they would have to order it. I thought maybe i could find it in the Springs. If anyone knows where else to look let me know.

Thanks

European is closed, only their website is open now.

Your best bet is probably online.

I am going to grill my parts person and see what I can find out.
Odds are nothing. When you find a source for these parts (or if I do)
lets make sure to post it in here. I have 3 16v engines right now and
pretty much all of them need a new dist due to the common oil leak.

I just repaired the leaky distributor on my GTI 16V. Seems to be working for now. I'll keep an eye on it though just to be sure. The repair is fairly easy. Why pay the dealer $178.00 for a rebuilt one when you can repair your own for a few dollars. I just had my friend at CarQuest order it for me. Or you can order it here.......

Here is the instructions on how to do the repair.

Hope this helps

Try Bap Geon Parts.  They have had some pretty rare stuff for my A4 before.

Bap Geon
719-637-9600

They are on Austin Bluffs West of Academy about two lights.

Dude, I drove by this place like 3 days ago - everything is in the window... you're talking about the one with the kitty cat that lives there, right?  On Nevada... behind Ted's office...  I keep seeing posts that they are closed, but the building still has the stuff in it, no signs saying closed... what's up?

From what I understand they sold the building and are liquidating their assets.
