Is this a good deal?

There's a guy on Audiworld selling a set of these:
http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/sus_stasis_b5a4.html#Track

Here is his ad:
Very good condition, used Stasis Tracksport coilovers for B5 S4 (2000-2002) and B5 A4 (1996-2001) with 600/700 lb springs. Front dampers have @4000 miles on them; rears have higher miles but were just dyno tested by Stasis. Asking $1250 shipped or best offer.

Also includes: full front assembly (modified stock bump stops to fit Stasis springs, stock spring perches and bushings - @$80 value); Stasis rear upper spring perches; Stasis front damper adjustment tool (@$40 new); and extra front touring valved damper for rebuild.

What do you think?  I'm not familiar with spring rates, so are this setup for a racing on a heavy front S4, or will they be okay on my lighter nose A4?  Also, is this even a good deal?

GAWDDAMN those are expensive!  i would think you would be able to find a set of used coilovers for less than a grand.

thats funny cause i just installed STaSIS tracksports on my S4 and finished this morning.  600/700 is a good setup if you are going to do some autocrossing.  i special ordered 700/800.  if your not going to autocross i would trade with some lighter spring rates.

$1250 is a awesome price and they will fetch that amount of money.  ive seen used ones sell for as much as $1400.

I'm really torn.  I think the price is pretty good, especially for what they are.  They are not a low-end suspension setup.  However, my biggest concern is the spring rates.  I think for my [relatively] lightweight Audi the springs are too stiff.  They are off an S4.

So, new question, do I buy these used, H&R's new, or just wait until I come across a cheaper used set of coilovers.

Just called STaSIS.  Without  describing what I'm buying, I asked them what's a good spring rate for a 2000 A4 1.8t, and they recommended a 600/700 combo.  I guess that explains that.  He said I could do 550/650 if I wanted, but after telling him what I drive on and how I drive, he stuck with the 600/700.

MoneyPit, do you have pics man?

Just saw it.  Do you have any of the car in finished condition?

The owner sent me some pics of his S4 before he removed the Track Sport coilovers.  His car is SICK.  Brandon and moneypit, when gmail stops being pissy and allows me to access that email, you guys NEED to check out the FMIC he has.  You guys will drool heavily.

You can't make the S4 any lower?  I think every one I've seen sits at about that height.  Is that like the perfect suspension geometry height for them?

This is what he wrote me:
The adjustment range is fairly broad, from higher than stock to about 25" (or more than 1" less than stock), although they are best run no less than about 25.5" because you'd hit the rubber bump stops a lot (unless they are trimmed, which mine are not).  I also scrape on things when I'm under 25.5.

In all honesty, that is exactly how I want mine to sit.  So tasteful and sexy.

hmmmm...i think i'd like it if it was hidden more...kinda makes the front of the car look to busy and takes away from the s4's subtle look.

Thank you Mr. Picky.

Next please.

;-)

I like how it sits tucked away.  You have to look twice to see if that big shiny thing is supposed to be there or not.  I also come from the rice world which is horribly tainted with cars that are more show (or lack there of) then go.

Its a nice car for sure, personally I'd prefer running AWE sidemounts.  They flow/cool about as well as the FMIC but are nicely tucked away and not visible.  Keeps the car subtle.

Yeah, I've beeen reading up alot on the B5 S4 and the best mods and what not.  I'm definately planning on the AWE side-mounts and AWE downpipes, probably their Twin1 or Twin 2 exhaust.  I like a the snarl the Twin 1 produces but the one I heard it on didn't have the downpipes on it, might be a little too loud with the downpipes and twin1.

Yeah I was reading on that too.  Did you see that one tech thread where you just hollow out the precats and then use those sparkplug spacers to keep the first o2 sens from throwing cel's?

that DUH front mount is sick.  i would take that over the sidemounts anyday.  a guy (called the_SUN) on audiworld dynoed his with a DUH front mount and had gains of 40+ horsepower.  it is an expensive FMIC but if you want huge performance gains for intercooling then that is the way to go.  Used ones are hard to come by so if one does come up for sale they go quickly!

its not for sale. is it?

I'd guess that by removing it from direct contact with the exhaust stream that it get a reduced signaland that tricks it into thinking the precat is still functioning.  But your guess is as good as mine.
