What's a 1.8l 8v worth without the wiring harness?

Might have found one in Denver.

there is probably 25 of em at local junkyards...  IMO it's worth next to nothing.  How much are they asking for it?

He's asking for offers and it's in Denver.

What does A1 charge for an engine that size?  Anyone seen a low milage one there?

I seem to think that with the core charge they'd cost more than $50.

More than likely. Can they charge a core charge at a junkyard? I would think no, but I have no idea.

I thought it was $100 at A1.  I can't remember, haven't bought an engine there in several months.

I wouldn't spend more than $50 on a 1.8 8V unless I was in dire straights and had to have it right then.  Or unless it had like 1,000 miles on it, then I would spend $55.  I have thrown so many 8V motors away it is sad.

Yea I was thinking is was around there.

The engine the guy has is around 150k, with a tranny on a 210mm fly wheel upgrade and pressure plate.  Donor car was an 86 Jetta GL.  Depeding on the tranny code I may check it out.  As the clutch is supposed to be less than a year old.

Need a new clutch anyway.  Need to find a 210mm fly wheel and upgrade that at the same time.

The clutch (incl flywheel) is bolted to the crank, so unless he removes it, you can use it.

WERDNA75: The Trans is the Wide Ratio box , but $50 for the Engine is insulting even though it is an 8V !!! . I would just rather keep it for a spare for my car that has the exact same engine in it.

Seems he got all ass hurt that his 1.8l 8v is worth around $50 without wiring harness.  I can't use the manifold and it's got 150k on it.

Maybe give Andy Maas a call? He seems to always have stuff. Or whats-his-name at RS Motorsports might have one laying around from a swap. If you're gonna swap an 8v, at least get a 2L bottom end.

Fuck that Dood..aka SLINGBLADE

I would rather walk than deal with him. As far as your 50 dollar offer being an insult for a 150K 8V.. I would say it's more like an insult to you that he thinks it's worth more.  Hell the fucker is probably worth more as scrap metal than as an engine.  You should tell him that

Doesn't that take more shoe horning to get in?  I seem to remember that takes an adjustment to the distributor and some other stuff.  Didn't seem like a drop in project like the 1.8l would be.

There is a little bit of work involved, not that much though..but seriously if you are swapping a 1.7 for a 1.8 8 Valve you are just plain retarded..yeah I said it.

All that work for basically nothing.

If you are going to do it at least make it worth your time or leave it alone.

Cool, gotta find a 210mm 8v clutch now.  Is it in decent shape or do I need to get it machined?
