Suspension shopping list...did I miss something?
« on: March 02, 2006, 11:27:09 AM »

Ok ordering the last bits to get my rocco up to par, and by that I mean able to drive without massive issues.

I've got or have ordered the following in a set:
Ball joints
tie rod end
strut bearings
control arm bushing kit
10.1" brake disks, pads, calipers, caliper rebuild kit
rear axle and 16v Scirocco disk brake set up
22mm master cylinder and brake booster (16v Scirocco)
set of 14in snowflakes
Eibach springs and Bilstien shocks
front "k" bar

Is there anything besides Loc-tite that I'm missing?

Not sure how complete your rear disk brake setup is..
couple things off the top of my head:
E Brake cables
proportioning valves
And I'm not 100% sure the 16V Booster and shit will mount up without the applicable 16V bracket assembly
Gregg D prolly know's that

I'll add the E-brake cables to the list.

Do the proportioning valves go bad?  AutohausAZ doesn't have them listed.

you can get them from Autotech

http://autotech.com/prod_brakes_rrbrakeconv.htm

on bottom of page, about 80$.  But if you have the 16V booster/lines and all other components then you shouldn't have any worries.  Greg D could tell you for sure.  I was going to do the rear disc conversion on my Rabbit but I was just going to buy my complete front and rear setup from Autotech.

Proportioning valves:

They are part of the factory brake system on Rocco 16V's for the rear disk brakes.
Your car doesn't have them and you need to buy them and add them into the lines for the rear disk brakes

His car should have a proportioning valve, just the wrong one.

There are two prop valves located near the mastercylinder that he must have from a 16V Rocco or the equivalent ....

That's what i'm saying

I got you.  Shouldn't that come with the 16V Booster assembly?

Why would they?  They aren't part of the booster or master cylinder.

When you buy an exhaust does it automatically include an exhaust manifold because that's what it connects to?

depends on if you get the full system or not, ie whe I bought the exhaust set up for my S10 it came with the header, highflow cat, and catback.  But I get what your saying.

Well like I posted earlier, Autotech carries them.

Your list looks pretty good, fitz.

I have a pair of those prop valves and 16V Scirocco e brake cables you can have for free cause you have bought so much for me over the years.

The old spindles on the Scirocco are the smaller 15mm balljoints, the newer ones you got from me are the later 17mm styel - be sure to order the correct size for whatever spindle you are using.  I would use the later 17mm.

I would also order a set  of braided brake hoses for a Scirocco 16V.  Brandy-new brake fluid.

I have another complete rear disc setup (stub axles out) if you don't have that yet (not free though).

You know, I am not sure about the 16V booster/bracket/MC stuff - I always assumed they were all interchangeabl e, I don't think the booster is any different, but I can't remember 100%.

Cool.  I'll bring you by a 12pack of something.

I checked on AutohausAZ and www.autotechpa rts.com for the 81 Scirocco and the 88 Scirocco show the same ball joint part.  It's the same part #.  Is there's another type of A1 chassis I should be looking at?  Otherwise I'm going to go out and check the fit on the ball joint and spindles out there.

Just added a set of front brake lines as well.  I'm not doing this again next year.

The last thing I haven't been able to source is new nuts/bolts/washers that are up to specs.  Lowe's metric?  LOL

Just got out of the garage and the ball joints fit perfectly.

I had to order another tie rod end, seems I only orderd one the first time. :screwy:

Stainless braided brake lines cost $22.98 each...ouch.  Hope they make a noted improvement.

Do I need to worry about a master cylinder/brake booster rebuild kit?  Couldn't find anything on them.
