So let me give you all the information I have... Carlos is out running errands but will be here later.

1998 A6

He's driving 80 down I25 and all of a sudden the car shuts off.  He got it to the side of the road... You can get it started but it sounds like complete and total shit and turns off after 5 - 10 seconds.

I have some questions... I don't know enough about this to know what all happens...
What happens if diesel fuel is put in a car that runs unleaded?  How would I test to find out if there was diesel in there?
Do fuel pumps suddenly go out or does it happen over time? If the fuel pump is going out do you still hear it when you open the door?  What else is there with fuel?

You can get it to start if you give it lots of gas while turning key...

Sorry if dumb but it's the best I can do.

wow lets pray there isn't diesel in there.  i'm not sure but i don't think diesel will even ignite with conventional ignition systems.  fuel pumps can just go out.  if you can still hear the pump when you open the door then it should still be working.  so it starts with the pedal to the floor?  does it puke out any black smoke when it starts?

Is the TB boot  still connected fully and tear free?  I've had a similar problem on my VR6 right after I put on my CAI, the boot after the the MAF slipped of the TB.  Apparently all that unmetered air isn't good for a car.

well pumping the gas on an efi motor doesn't really do anything.  no black smoke means it isn't running pig rich.  i dunno if the tb is dbw or dbc on a '98 a6.  is this the 3.0 v6 or whatever it is?

edit:  also, it wouldn't run at all if there was diesel in it.

Strange, because it definitely doesn't start without foot on gas pedal.
It's a 2.8.

no i mean the action of pumping doesn't really do anything.  you pump the accelerator on a carbed motor because it squirts fuel down into the intake via the accelerator pump.  since there isn't an accelerator pump type of function on an efi motor it really doesn't do anything other than flap the throttle blade.

I understand.... holding it down it didn't start.  Anyways,   I hope this isn't anything too pricey, my mom gets all bent out of shape when my dad's toys break and cost lots of money to fix.

have LoLos Vag it, im sure it's nothing major.  Unless there is diesel in there.  I don't even think you can do that anymore, aren't diesel nozzles too big for a cars gas tube now?

I thought the VAG wouldn't work on the Audi...?  I thought his program didn't like it... Ory maybe it just is bad to clear the codes...We shall see though... hope he can.  I dunno about the diesel thing - it was a shot in the dark since he had just gotten gas.

That answer suffices.  I thought there was a reason...like a won't work or is harmful reason.
