57 Euro Oval for sale
« on: February 10, 2006, 07:23:15 PM »

Wayne over on VOCS.net is selling his 57 Euro Oval for $3K

It's basically the same Euro model as my car ..even started out the same color originally.

It's a pretty solid car and it's almost a driver so if anyone is looking to get into an Air Cooled car here's your chance to do it the right way for the right price.

I'm almost half tempted to sell mine and buy this one cause it's in a little better shape overall than mine.

You're on the right track Rich.. and the money you invest is much better spent on a classic car like an Oval.  At least in the end (if you do it right) and decide to sell the car you will get a good chunk of your investment back... if not more.

Holy crap.  If he was in the rust belt, he could charge $5000 and get asking price.

That is a perfect driver.  Damnit.  Good thing I can't drive and have to pay cash for a root canal.  Oh yeah - that would have almost paid for this.  I hate teeth.

If I could buy that thing right now I would, drop a 2000cc motor in it and a 356 transaxle.  Raise the engine and bag it.  Then I would probably tinit the windows and put all the factory chrome bits back on it.  I might comnsider some Matte finish black paint but would most likely just throw some whitewalls on as running gear and drive it like that.

Would make sure to fix and seal any rusty bits though.

Here what I would make it look like, and with the rake I'd probably forget raising the engine.  If I decided to rais the engine I would bag it and dump it.

Well personally I prefer superbeetles.  I do feel you on the period corectness, and I'd lose the stinger.  Would actually just run no bumpers most likely.

Who says it has to be period correct? Stingers were never standard equipment on beetles of any year.

The nice thing about stingers is the fireball they shoot out with a properly tune engine.  Impressive's beetle would shoot some awesome little fireballs w/ its stock little 1300cc motor and stinger exhaust.

I said it  :P

In my opinion if you're going to step into a Vintage Air Cooled car you shouldn't be fucking it up with with gay mods and Cal look shit etc.. You are actually taking value away from the car.  If you want to do that stuff go buy a 68 or later and knock yourself out.

Well, opinions are like assholes; and your opinion is like your asshole - it stinks. That is, I'm assuming sometimes you actually allow shit to come out of your ass, and not just your mouth.  :blahblah:

IMO a 78 swallow tail is a classic, a lot fo watercoolers are not only retaining their value but getting more expensive as time goes on.  That's a whole diff thread tho.

Pat i'd like to see pics of these cars you think are done the right way.

hmm wehile I don't know anything about what's period correct, not not allowed or whatever.  That car looks really nice minus the stance.  I dont care for the wheels, it has way too much tire and not enough neg camber/slamage.  just my opinion of course.

Well it's not a matter of what is or isn't allowed.  I'm just very opinionated on chopping up these old Cars..there just aren't that many of them left out there.
I prefer the "resto custom" look..where basically the car looks stock and any modifications done mechanically can be reversed if desired.

And I agree..the car needs more slamage action...but the problem with all that negative camber is that it tears up parts in a hurry if you actually drive the car...which is why Air bags are the way to go if you're looking for maxium slam and want to drive the car as well... Just my opinion of course  ;-)

i'd agree that chopping up an oval or split window is lame when there are a million later bugs that are out there.  Any VW be it air or water can look amazing with no body mods at all just the right stance and wheels,  It's so simple yet most people get it wrong imo.

I think the key to making these cars look really cool is max lowering, however you get there.  But then again that is the key to making any car look better.  I've always been fond of the two tone, porsche wheels, blade bumpers and super slam look.  Which i also always thought was the cal look.  Then again I don't know anything about these cars.  I do fancy myself as a "car decoration technician" so i think if I did have one I could make it look pretty rad in no time tho.

That 57 for sale is pretty tempting but then i'd have to admit that I really do like em.. :P   Plus that would be yet another project and I am on a mission from God with my MK2.  I've also just sourced anoter MK2 that will be just as cool yet in an entirely diff way.

Somone local should buy that car tho, its' a killer deal for sure.
