Gearboxes, Axles etc
« on: December 22, 2005, 10:31:36 AM »

So I am in a garage-cleanout mode, and need to generate cashola anyway.

I have too many 020 gearboxes (these are on Vortex for a few dollars more, fyi)

2Y   16V close ratio box    $200

FF   Wide ratio mileage box  $75

FN   Wide ratio mileage box  $75

7G   EURO Close ratio box  $200
needs flange seals, 3.65 ring & pinion with close ratio gears.

AXLES:  I have like 20 axle shafts.  All A1 or A2. Make me an offer.  Cheap.

More on the way - if you know I have something and you want it, make me an offer, I am in the mood to get rid of stuff.  (IE, 50mm 16V manifold, A1 TT 16V & 8V downpipes, 16V head & cams, 8V exhaust manifolds, shift linkages, engine mounts, AC compressors, etc etc.)

http://www.scirocco.org/gears/

The link shows most trans/ and their gear ratios.

The FF & FN have widely spaced ratios and 3.89 ring & pinion.  Because of the widely spaced ratios, it is great for an economy box/freeway cruiser, or if you have 200+hp and a light car.  At 3500rpm, you will be going aroudn 83mph.

The 7G is a close ratio GTI trans that has a 3.65 ring and pinion, but with the gears close together.  It is the most relaxed cruising gearbox you can have along with the sporty close ratios.  At 3500rpm you will be going 69-70mph.

The 2Y is a 16V unit, with a larger mainshaft and the close ratio internals.  Weighs a touch more, but not really worth mentioning.  It has a 3.67 ring and pinion, so about as close to the 7G as possible, but in a beefier package.  If you were planning a lot more power in the future, this would be a good box.  Also about 70mph at 3500rpm.

The taller 5th gears from the wide ratio boxes can be put in a close ratio box for more relaxed cruising, but you get a big drop between 4th and 5th, and unless your engine has 120+hp, you won't like it because 5th will be a level and downhill only gear.

I have the 5 speed linkage parts I would throw in if you need them.

No B3 axles, and I don't know them well enough to say they will swap.  I think so, because the Corr G60 axles I just got rid of were the same as the A2 axles I had, and I thought most of the Passat 4cyl & G60 front suspension was similar.  Search Vortex to be sure.
