I never sleep at rest stops without my dogs (and the good guard dog is dead now)... normally what I do is pull into a hotel parking lot and crash, LOL!

Now that I think about it, it shouldn't cost any more than $100 to ship these via FedEx.

I personally find it to be less of a hassle to just drive... plus there is NO doubt that they got there in good shape... it would cost me 80-100 to ship them (including packing material) and it will cost me about 10 bucks more to drive it, including renting the car!

I get 30mpg in the GTI with 100K on the clock, AC on, and running about 95mph.

Not that it matters, but I spent less than 80 total and enjoyed meeting the guy. Plus it was the only way to ensure no shipping company fucked them up any worse. After getting my claim DENIED, I was not about to allow that to happen to anyone else.

The Focus was comfortable enough, it was just not a car I would ever own...

It was actually one of the easiest drives I have ever been on.. cruise control, a few good CD's and a few good football games on the radio!

Even with the just over 2 hour nap I took on the way home it was still only 13.5 hours round trip. Oh yeah, not to mention it doesn't really matter how dumb you think it was or not... ;-)
