What's "dirt cheap" to you...$50?  I know it does not have a built in CD drive - I borrowed an external drive when I installed Office.  I think it has Windows98 on it, Office...just the basics because I bought it to be able to type papers at school while I was in class.  From what I remember the battery works fine and I have the charger for it too.  Ummm....do you have any questions about it that I might be able to answer for you without having it in front of me?

As long as it's not a 486dx or something coz vagcom needs at least a pentium 100mhz and above. I can just do a direct cable connection to transfer files.
geeze I remember my first turbo xt computer with cga monitor

??
1. the processor speed
2. memmory
3. hard drive size

I'll check that stuff tomorrow - I am positive that the processor speed is high enough.

Lindsey is having logon issues so im posting this for her...

CTX Easybook
Windows98
I believe it is 200 Mhz, that is what it shows when it posts
24 MB Ram
PCMCIA card - 56k modem
No USB slots
Floppy Drive
No internal CD Rom Drive
Right now it's actually "fast" for what it is...I have NOTHING on it but Windows98, Office and AOL.  No other programs have been installed.
System Resources show 81% free.
I sort of babied this thing since I needed it desperately when I had it.
I deleted all my files off of and there is currently about 1GB of free space on the 2.00 GB hard drive
One of the covers for the screws/hinge for the monitor is broken, but it does not affect performance.

I think this would be a good laptop if you want to use it for simple tasks - I have not had any problems with it, but like I said, I babied it quite a bit.  Let me know if you are interested - PM me or email me.  If you want to see it/try it first I don't have a problem with that.  If you have any questions let me know.

If you want to install vagcom and try it out I don't have a problem with that.  Like I said, since it has minimal programs installed it actually isn't too terribly slow.

here I thought this might help you Oliver

from Ross Tech:

Q: What  are the computer requirements?
A:  A PC running Windows:  We recommend at least a Pentium-100 (or AMD equivalent) with 16MB of RAM and Windows 95 or newer.  VAG-COM may work on some lesser PC's, but anything less than the above recommendation is unsupported.   Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, and XP are all fine.   Available disk-space should be al non-issue, VAG-COM requires less than 10 MB.  To use one of our Serial Interfaces, the PC must have an available RS-232 Serial port! Otherwise, you'll need to choose one of our USB Interfaces.

A RS-232 Serial Port looks like this:

Observe the port we surrounded with the GREEN oval. Notice the 9 MALE pins? That is a SERIAL port and WILL work!   Observe the port circled and crossed in RED.  Notice the 15 FEMALE pins? That is a MONITOR port and will NOT work!

with as old as it is I'd guarentee there for sure is a serial the question would be whether it's a male or female serial port AKA pins or holes as it needs to be pins for whay he needs... my serial port on my laptop is a female one but I have USB so if I got one it's not big deal but he doesn't have that option unless you have a free PCMCIA port  and then he has to spend another 40 bucks to get a USB card for it and it will slow things down more on the laptop and I thnk the USB requirements are actually higher anyway

Ok so I meant that I was 99% sure that it had the right one, not that there was one at all.
