Uses a Ducati motor - cool bike  but too funky styling for me.  Bimota is a high-end Italian bike builder that has used other companies engines for almost ever.  Usually rare, expensive, good handling and on the edge style-wise.

Didn't Bimota used to use Kawasaki engines?

I HATE the new Ducati 749/999 styling.  Fucking ugly as shit, ESPECIALLY when you compare it to the best looking bikes ever made IMO - the previous 748/916/996/998 series.

MV's are badass.  The 4 outlet tailpipes look like they mean business, too.

An underated Italian bike is the Laverda - under the radar so still cheapish, and other than electrics, simple and reliable, though no crazy performance level.

There are a million unique bikes with cool characters out there - just keep looking.

I wonder what my SR22 level insurance on a sport bike will be...

I realize it probably isn't the fastest, best handling, or best looking bike by today's standards; but I still drool over it nevertheless.
The Morbidelli V8:

If we're talking in the less-than-$40,000 price range, I like the Yamaha V-Max:

And the Honda Valkyrie:

This Warrior is pretty badass too:
