Take a look at EIP.  Their systems are no joke.  there starter kit runs around 1795 with a T3 or T3/T4 turbocharger.  Now you say you have 5K, if your looking for some serious power they have a 2.1L 16V TURBO = 450+ WHEEL HORSEPOWER kit.  To save some money on install, im sure some of these guys in here have done a turbo before, you may want to ask them if they can hook you up with the install, i wouldnt mind helping, but i never done one before   :?

16V turbo while cool would be kind of pushing it in a MK3 because technically it's illegal for emission's purposes to put an engine in the car that is older than the actual car it's going into.  Since MK3's in the US never came with 16V's that pretty much closes that case.

Also we've got a way over the top 16V turbo guy here already and I'm sure he will be the first to attest to the fact that there is no such thing even remotely close to a "bolt on" 16V turbo setup.

VR6 swap with a bolt on turbo kit from EIP.

Should take a weekend, maybe two if you break something.

Doing a VR6 swap in a MK3 is pointless...ju st go buy a MK3 "factory" VR6 and be done with it.

You know, I wondered about this the other day - did the Passat come with the 2.0 16v in 1993?  I didn't think so, but if it did, it would be a legal swap into a 93 Golf.  And the shop that e-tests my stuff had to ask what the motor in the caddy was from ('course I told them an 82 Dasher/Passat).

If the Passat theory were true...good luck finding a 93 Golf.  I've actually been looking for one believe it or not.

I didn't say it couldn't be done.  I saw a MK IV in person at Waterfest that was sporting a 16VT .. prolly the same guy's nuts that you're swinging from.

All I was saying is that if you live somewhere like CO with the Tree Huggers it could present a problem when you go in for an emissions test.  Of course you could always "pay off" the tester guy or whatever..but that's not always a sure thing either.

I always thought you could swap an older engine into a car as long as the older engine could meet the emmisions standards of the engine it is replacing.

Nope.  Techically you can swap in a newer engine, but then you have to meet the emissions standards of the newer year (which are usually stricter).

Yeah, there are ways around it and depending on the shop, you can get through pretty easy.  I was just kinda hoping to have it legit so I wouldn't have to try and slide something by.  Like the 1990 Audi 80 engine in a 1979 Dasher.  Ahem.

Did they make 2 dr Golfs in 93, or just 4dr?  All I am finding is 4drs.

well maybe by the time I figure out what I wanna do under the hood of the jetta, they will have repealed the emission laws here.... been hearing a lot about that lately.... then it won't matter.

Honestly, a turbo kit for the 2.0 from New Dimensions or a supercharger kit from BahnBrenner would probably be the easiest and quickest solution.

The kit from New Dimensions is beyond "dated"

I'd go with the ATP kit and call it a day.  If I were looking to turbo a 2 point slow.

Yeah, I am sure you are right, Pat.  Really haven't looked into it.  The allure of an A3 Golf 2.016V (ABF replica) is too strong.

you will still end up getting more "things" to add to your "kit"......like Pat mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as a "Bolt On" turbo setup.
