reason is I have an 85 vanagon waiting for me in cali.  I hear a vr6 engine swap or tdi. Thinking of making it into a trailer puller.

oops forget about the tdi, I forgot that I will be moving into a different planet. planet Cali.

well the van is in storage in Sacramento but I will be towing it to the new house in Antioch Ca.
That van is funny going up to the mountains with a strong cross wind.

I have towed with Vanagons before - flat towing other VWs.  It is OK, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially not a boat or anything.  

I have been a party to some engine conversions, and the only one I would consider would be a Subaru flat 4 or 6.  The 2.5L would be about perfect.  A buddy's Syncro has a 2.0 I4 VW and it is pig slow.  The Wasserboxers aren't reliable enough for any real extended use IMO.  

A VR swap would be a whole lot more weight, and a lot more headaches than the Subie swaps.  A TDi swap would be decent, though, but probably a lot more money than a Subie.

Either a BRAND new legacy 6 cyl or an older SVX.  There are some of those running around the Springs, actually.

yeah I'm just slacking at putting some notes.

basically legacy motor
Legacy engine 2.2L 135hp
Legacy engine 2.5L 165hp
wrx 2.0 turbo motor





this is actually a subaru svx (boxer)engine  230hp at 5400rpm
