Euro TPS from an A2 16V?
« on: February 15, 2005, 09:08:42 AM »

I am not the expert on Rest of the World VW models - maybe someone can help me?

This is a TPS for an A2 16V?   I didn't know A2s had TPSs.  Any reason it wouldn't work the same as the TPS on a motronic Passat 16V auto throttle body?

Is that the wrong link? Its pulling up a 50mm Intake.

Passat 16v AUTOS were the only 16v's with TPS's. G60 auto had the same one and are interchangable .

If its euro and 16v, I guess there's the possibility its off an ABF?

Yes very true, and in that case unlike any TPS' that we ever had in the states.

Oops.  Wrong link.

My understanding of the ABF is that it only came on A3s, not A2s, though.

See my dilema?  WOuld love to buy it, but hate to do it and get something that won't fit a "normal" 9A/PL throttle body.

I can't see how that would possibly fit what we know as a "normal" throttlebody

Must have something to do with Euro injection. Looks a lot like the secondary throttle sensor on my Infiniti

In my USA LU software 048 133 154 (the part number on the package in the photo) shows this part as fits the following cars:

90-92 Jetta 9A Engine
90-94 Passat 9A Engine

And is only to be used on TB part numbers 051 133 063 AA, 051 133 063 AB or 051 133 063 T (the AB variant is apparently only for California emissions engines)

In the Euro version of my LU software it shows it is used on the following:

89-95 Scirocco / Corrado
90-92 Golf
88-93 Passat/Santana
90-92 Jetta/Vento

All 9A engine... with the same restrictions to throttle body part numbers.

Also - for manual trans only on Passats at least in both the Euro and USA software...

Advantage?  None it's for the Auto tranny ecu.
But most people use them for standalone setups where they require a TPS.

oh ok, i knew it was for the auto tranny ecu, but i thought maybe there was an advantage to having this on a manual car... but the standalone makes sense.

It helps in telling the ECU when to shift... now it is just keeping the ECU happy because the signal is going nowhere!

Now...the big "knowledge test"  (Lovett & gearhead you're not allowed to answer)

What function does the TPS serve in a regular system with a manual trans. or in a standalone management setup?

No googling allowed.

ummmm... does it have something to do with a comparison between the throttle opening and what the MAF is seeing?

Don't know if this will help, but think about a carburetor.

And also - how many standalones use a MAF?

Bingo..that's the direction I was going Greg.

I knew a good ole Iowa boy that grew up in the 70's & 80's would know the answer.
