can someone help me with a stereo install and a VAG tool?
« on: February 11, 2005, 12:17:50 PM »

for tomorrow? i'm installing my nav+ tomorrow, and i'd really really appreciate some help from someone with some stereo install experience that could help me put in my DVD player too.

It would help if someone could hook me up with a VAG tool as i need to calibrate a couple things with the nav system.

I'll pick up some pizza and beer for anyone that helps! or anyone that wants to come watch, or someone willing to help me out with a garage

thanks a bunch!

You should ping JDawg on RMCB5.  He did the install in his W8 and has a VAG-COM as well.

yoogene, if you need my vagcom, I'll let you use it, but i think your car needs and adapter or something to make it work...

thanks carlos. i'm not really sure if i need that adapter, i used Greg's vag and it worked fine...
Chris said that there's something different with the OBD2, but maybe i got lucky? or maybe greg had a newer version...i dunno, Chris always helps me out whenever i go down to the dealership anyway, mainly because i bring him beer and food.  :o

Well...I've got the "OG" VAG-COM ...from years ago and I've never had a problem using it on any newer cars...to include Audi's.

supposedly the imo 3 audi's like 02 and newer there is an adapter or you have to have a diff plug end for the vag com... I'll ask chris again the next time i see him as I can remember what it was...

The deal is that some of the newer B6 Audi's have dual K lines and the "dealer" scan tool requires an adapter to function properly.

VAG-COM's do not require an adapter...appa rently as long as you don't have the OG model.  Also from what I've gathered not all newer Audi's have dual K lines...it depends on the trim level of the car.

well pimp shit then.  I figured if the dealer needed the adapter, vag com would too... and now that you brought it up, i didn't remember some one saying some about the k line...
