Looking for an mkll or mklll golf/gti
« on: February 05, 2012, 12:00:19 PM »

There is a pretty good chance I will be dumping my mkv. By the end of the month. I want to replace it with an mkll. Prefer a golf body. But would consider a Jetta. A vr swap would be nice.

No rush. Have a few weeks till I can get to the cash. Just figured I'd ask to see if I could move the search off the internet and start looking at the cars.

Should have cash next week. Can do a deposit asap if I find the right car.

Sean. I want something with a vr6. Seems a mk2 would be quite a but easier than a mk1if I ever decide to do the swap. I am now looking at mk3s too. Kinda moved my search to a car that already has a vr. Seems like it could be a bitch to track parts down in this town. Hell. I check Cl alot andof I have not even been able to find a car worth looking at.

Shit. I am interested. I did some digging. I assume the whole swap would be easier to swap the wiring harness headlight to tail light and do a gauge cluster from a mk3? So pretty much find a donor car to swap from?

Not really. The engine harness where it plugs into the fuse box is mostly gauge sensor wires. There's a ECU power wire, coil power, and fuel pump wire. It's actually harder to replace the entire harness with the CE2 system from late mk2's and mk3's into a mk1. Besides, if you're going through all of the trouble of dumping a VR into a mk1 you're better off just running a megasquirt setup. Chances are you're not going to keep the engine stockish.

Thought hard about it. But I don't want to spend that much money. Its a bad ass car at what seems like a awesome price. I am just being cheap.

There's a couple on craigslist, but not much detail other than the general "old car" stuff. I did find a Corrado that might be a decent fixer. http://cosprings.craigslist.org/cto/2864168800.html

A corrado. Add is off craigslist already.

Needs a head gasket and I am redoing all the cooling system already have a radiator on the way. Thinking of ordering the bfi silicone coolant hose kit (that will replace damn near every coolant hose right? Still need a crack pipe?) Also gonna get another head this weekend so I don't have the extra down time if mine is warped. Also will do timing chains while I am at it.
