2010 golf 2.5 wont rev past 3k

so i was driving home today, and i accelerated reaching 3k rpm and shifted like normal but it felt a little weird but i just kept driving casually. i came up to a right hand turn at a green light and when i down shifted to 2nd there was an instant loss of power. I thought it wasn't in gear so i wiggled the shift knob and tried again. same results, no check engine light on, nothing. so i pulled off took a good long look around my car, and engine bay. so i thought just drive home and see whats going on. right as i was pulling into my driveway my engine light turned on.


so i looked it up and i guess its just in limp mode? that's what i have seen a lot that happens when you cant rev past 3k. and from what I've read it could just be a sensor.

I'm taking it to the dealership tomorrow to see whats going on but hopefully its something minor or that my warranty covers.

any past experiences or anyone that knows what causes this please feel free to share.

You are in limp mode, and there are a multitude of factors to this... anything from a misfire to hitting a pot hole just the right way to trigger a sensor.. if you dont wanna go to the stealership i can scan your car. Also, another way to get it out of limp mode is to disconnect the battery, then (with both terminals disconnected) connect the positive and the negative wires to drain all power. then re-connect and go for a spin. im not sure if the dealership is gonna charge you to scan it, but if not go for it, and make sure they give you the exact code and look it up yourself so they dont pull any shit. but if they want to charge you to scan it and you dont wanna pay just hit me up. GL!

Thanks, but its still under warranty so there shouldn't be a charge at all. And im going to ask them to bring out the handheld scanner and do it right in front of me so i see the code. i did the same thing when my CEL went off for abnormal idle rev when i put on my cold air/short ram.

knock sensor malfunction.

they ordered a new knock sensor and will be in tomorrow.

my friends dad actually owns Buds Mufflers on N. Circle. he has a big scanner that's basically on a tool chest with internet so after you scan you can look up the parts and everything, and handhelds.

got my car back today. they had to change the rear tail light $36 when i already had bulbs at my house to do it. stupid light went out right when i pulled into the service garage.

***I just went over my car again and found out they put the tail light back on incorrectly and it is protruding, and squeaking when i drive or even push on it lightly.***
