MK4 Brake Rotors
« on: June 12, 2011, 09:32:31 PM »

Hey
Well my brakes have been sqweeking/grinding the past few day and i just felt the inside or my front rotors and it feels like it has been metal on metal and its wore down pretty good! So what is the limit on how much you can re serface them  ???  it feels like at the top there is a minimum of 1cm on each side that is worn!  I am pulling them apart tomorrow after class to see what all is going on.  Who all do you guys know of that has CHEAP rotors?  Or do any of you have some laying around I can buy? oh and worst of all now I have to drive the tracker till I fix this  :banghead:  :banghead:
Thank you
Kevin

VW rotors aremt meant to be resurfaced man. Juat buy new rotors. You can get rears from o'reillys for dirt cheap and the fronts are probably beat priced from ecs

ECS is probably one of the better places to get rotors.

FYI, manufacturers only spec rotors to be turned at most once in their lifetime. The second it goes metal to metal there is enough material removed to put them out of a useable spec and become unturnable. Honestly, turning the rotors is always just a bandaid fix anyways. Brake lathes aren't known for their accuracy and in plenty of cases actually turn rotors in a warped fashion.
