well, at this point, im working on sourcing a new motor.  this time around, I'll be going with forged goodies, to avoid mishaps like this again.

today, i pulled the oil pan, and i found the missing piston!

my girlfriend helping pull the chunks out of the pan

im keeping this piece as a souvenir.

Run some injector cleaner, you should be fine.

Good luck man, get a motor from UP&P!

Yikes.  Crazy thing is I've seen worse on Lovetts old 16v that blew to shit.
If it was knockin like crazy and something was bad, why did you keep driving it?
Hope you can piece it together for now to get it running while you build up a good replacement.

carlos, im not going to try to get it running until i have a good strong motor to put in.  im in the process of figuring out how im going to build the motor...get one from upap and then build that with forged goodies, or buy an already built motor.  im thinking starting with a junkyard motor will be the most cost effective way to do it, seeing as upap sells them for so cheap.

LOL at Carlos' piece it together comment

Mike... you have three options to consider.... four really.

1. Buy a motor at Pull and Pay and rebuild it to your liking. I have a junkyard VR that had good chains and bottom end in my garage now that has well over $1K wrapped up into it... It was built to VW spec, with the exception of ARP head studs.

2. Buy a used built motor and hope the guy building it knew what he was doing.

3. Buy a new, built longblock.... Hope you are getting a huge tax return.

4. Buy two motors at pull and pay.... put one back into your car now as it is, and get the car running right NA again, while you take your time, and waste a ton of paychecks building the second motor....

Any way, you are starting out back at step one, which sucks, but if you dont take any shortcuts, you should be good to go for a realiable, strong running VRT.

Good luck buddy! I know you're down in the dumps right now, but there's a light at the end of tunnel.

Good news is, now with your car out of commission, you can take the time to scrape that hideous tint off of your windows!
