And yes Mike... the intial plan was to keep it N/A and build it up with the monster cams that it already has and the big vlave head thats on my bench, but I think plans are starting to sway other wise. I will say that I am in the middle of polishing a header for the F/I application.


The Primadonnas set my wallet back a bit, but hopefully, by h2o the F/I will be finished.

Oh... and it's not a vortech unit  :)

I think Mat was talking about a roots blower like a Weiand (cog vs. screw). Those are the least efficient.

If you don't know what you are talking about, shut your mouth.

Twin screw blowers (Lysholm, autorotor, Whipple, etc) are very, very efficient compared to Roots superchargers. 

The most efficient supercharger is the centrifugal.  Back when I was dealing in these things a lot, we quoted some round numbers - rule of thumb type stuff. 

Roots were lucky to get to 50% adiabatic efficiency

Twin screws were in the 75% range

Centrifugals were in the 75-90% range.  Lots of variables, and lots of difference in the personality/delivery response of the blowers, longevity etc. 


And just to rub your face in it a little more, Mike - what do Top Fuel Dragsters use?  Least HP?  Come on.  Yeah, it sucks up some power, but if there was an easy way to make more, don't you think they'd do it?

i think you meant matt here.  im all for the twin screw.  to me, if you look at dyno charts of centrifugal vs twin screw, twin screw makes way more torque all across the rev range versus having to get revs up to make power in a centrifugal.  that, and twin screws just sound so damn good!


as far as getting back on topic, ive done plenty of looking into a twin screw on a VR6, and there was a shop back in the early 2000s that played with the idea and even built a few prototype kits, but in the end, the gains werent worth the cost of R&D.  there are still a few people on the vortex running these kits.  the biggest problem with running a twin screw on a VR is the packaging.  there simply isnt enough room in the engine bay to mount a blower big enough to feed a VR.  thats why the go tos for VR forced induction are turbo or centrifugal.  both take up far less room.
