The kit is about $100-200.  The oven, the blast cabinet, and the large compressor are shop stuff it's good to have anyway.  The oven seems out of place, but I like to bake.  Just kidding.

The cost of the powder adds up in a hurry.  I'll buy a few smaller quantities to see how to use it and what works,  etc., but I expect I can make it back in not too long with just increased value in wheels to sell.  Those 16x8 BBS are worth about $100-200 as they sit, but with a fresh powdercoat and polish, might be $500-600+.  Minus my time, which is worthless of course.

Greg, any chance you might havesome 3" metal tubing of some kind (cheap crap, charge tube, etc) for making an intake (or can suggest a place, hardware store perhaps)?  I have a box full of charge tubes, and I just checked, the largest I have is 2 3/4  :-\

worst case I can get that ricer plastic intake tubing from Advancheckzone, but I'd have no faith in it not melting in proximity to my exhaust manifold

I don't - biggest I have laying around is 2.5".  But, any halfway decent exhaust should should have it.

Depends - if you buy a 16' section its gonna weigh a hell of a lot more than a 1' section.

If you want to use it for intake tubing, it will be fine.  If you want to use it for exhaust, it will be fine.  The only thing I would shy away from is maybe right off the turbo/downpipe stuff.  Little beefier there should be fine.  Think about the temperaturesit sees with exhaust - unless you are running 50psi of boost (like mediocre turbo diesels do) you won't have a problem.

bah.. ok, this is just intake side... finally replacing my "window screen bird catcher" with a real intake & filter... just didn't realize the two "large" tubes I had were only 2.75

If the parts are really clean and you keep your cabinet clean you should be able to recover a lot of powdercoat dust and reuse it. You'll most likely want to bake the parts before coating to cook off any leftover dirt/residue and you'll probably want to make some sort of ductwork as it can get smokey.

The real money comes from powdercoating on request. Little things like alternator brackets, pulleys, etc are fairly quick and easy. The Hotcoat that Eastwood has works great for exhaust manis and turbos and whatnot. There was an old scirocco.org guy who used it as his main source of funding for his rocco.

Great input - much appreciated.

I kind of wondered how the high-temp powdercoat colors Eastwood et. al. sells would do - good to hear positive results.  I've seen it on chopper header pipes and it looked great, was just curious about durability.

My buddy that donated the oven would like to do some serakote (sp?) more common in the gunsmithing industry, so we'll just have to see how it all works!

I know - makes your head spin with possibilities.  They even have metallic, and small metal flake colors, too.  Clear coat, chrome-type finishes, etc.

$7.56 w/tax at advancheckzone .... 18" tube and the thing weighs like 4 lbs LMAO

edit... looking at it and trying to picture how this freekin thing is going to go in, I might need to put a "bend" into it, good thing I know a local welder who might do it for a few $$

There is new technology where a powdercoated surface comes out with a polished appearance

My buddy here was trying to talk me into getting the RM barrels done like that

That - or - buy a mandrel bend piece.  Not that expensive, and makes it way easier.  That's what we did on Macktastic's intake.  But the factory boot wouldn't fit over so we had to get get a 2.75" piece welded to it (didn't have a welder then).  Or was it swedged down?  I can't remember now but it was something like that.

Bud's muffler here in the Springs stocks mandrel bends - costs more than Summit Racing, but you don't have to pay shipping.  We can always section/pie-cut it too.

exactly, quite easy to make the necessary cuts and bends by hand, then just have them tacked & seam welded

and, ya no... no plastic crap in close proximity to the exhaust manifold LOL

I already found a 3" 45-degree 2' mandrel bent alumn tube (that I think would be perfect with trimming) for about $18+shipping.... I'm just looking for something "now" so I can throw everything mocked-up this weekend, once I can confirm fitment/angles/etc, I'll pickup which ever tube would work

Good shop, here in the springs.
http://www.siliconeintakes.com/index.php?cPath=19&osCsid=87fe6377e9333be9a032b09344b18367

or

Same stuff, different seller.  Again, here in the springs
http://www.votionspeed.com/servlet/the-Aluminum-Intercooler-Piping/Categories

I don't know what your talking about

figures that out of the 18" exhaust piece... I only needed 6"
Pipe fit perfectly between the turbo outlet charge tube, and the front cross member... 3" cone filter was another story, barely fit between the body and the return charge tube... and I mean barely!  was an überbitch to get the charge tube in.  I am in NO rush to get the tube replaced with aluminum
