all the talk of hating pete, and nobody mentioned the speed humps at the west gate?? Dave can your truck make it over those things without teeter-tottering on them? Barry I know people from my old squadron who've been stationed at Pete for 8 years, so yeah... easy to get stuck there. The poor little wing gets yanked around by the majcoms too, so the hierarchy is all sorts of fucked up.

I dont mind peterson, but I am pretty disgusted with the gutting of money for useless and pointless shit there.  That however is above my head, so you just deal with it.  It is a Command HQ base, AFSPC exactly. It just happens. Ive heard the same thing happens at Hickam (not a command base just is what it is) and also at Scott.

Eh you can only do so much with that.  I bought a house and hope they keep me here. If not my ETS date is 2012, they wnt PCS me so close, if they  do I can just go palace chase and get a job here at the 302nd.  I can get GI bill and ride out the house for another year and be fine.  I do lik the area, I have lived in a much worse place. damn.. i hope this speedbump is not that big.. and i dont have to worry about it.. cause my car is pretty low.. i have issues with some driveways.. yet alone speed bumbs.. but i did weld in an 2x2 steel beam in front of the motor going across.. to take the impact if i ever hit anything.. it sits about 1/2 inch lower then the lowest point of my oil pan... hit a pot whole on the interstate one day.. on I95 and it made me bottom out.. and a huge chunk of asphalt went shattering out the back of my car.. pulled over.. and it just left a small dent in the bar.. haha

its big, but the approach angles are pretty steep too.  It isnt that bad and I never rubbed or hit going over it, even when I had the duckbill on the front.

I think my Jetta was lower then any of my other cars, and I would get 3 wheel action everytime I went through the west gate... Guards don't like it when you take those humps at an angle either, but fuck those nancies.

haha.. i should go out there with some hairy fiberglass and widen it myself.. haha.. that what we did at my old base when they put speed bumps in the base housing.. we went out and bought a 5 gallon bucket of hairy fiberglass and put it on it.. and just painted it black

i don't understand why they need two of them, and the pop-up.... AFTER THE GATE! The pop up, yeah, but all three is just stupid. Wasn't there an old lady who flipped her car... alot... going out shorly after they redesigned that gate?

In Cherry Point, NC we had the pop ups come up while someone was driving over them.. and it killed her crushed her against the top of her car.. she was ironically the base Legal General Inspector...

she drove an saturn and the sheer speed of them popping out of the ground crushed the aluminum unibody under her into the ceiling of its own car..

yes. Those were different pop-ups from what was used at Peterson... think giant poles, that shoot straight up out of the ground. The Air Force changed thier implementation of baricade devices after that incident to use ramp style popups instead

ya.. these were giant poles with cement in the middle of them.. that would shoot straight out of the ground and stick out of the group about 6 feet...
