Stage III
« on: May 01, 2010, 08:36:48 AM »

So, It happened.  ;D

My brother picked up the car yesterday, just got off the phone with him, and I haven't heard him so excited since he had his kid.

He drove the car from Alabama to where he live in GA, and apparently had a little fun. He said he raced a "brand new" m3 (which may be an E46 too) from probably about 60ish.... said at the top of third he was pulling on him, and the beating continued all the way through fourth, when he shifted to fifth he looked down and was doing around 130.. he said the guy came up and threw his hands in the air like "wtf just happened". My brother isn't exactly looking for races either... but apparently he just embarrassed some old man with a young girl in a Z4(still funny) He told me that every thing else will feel slow to him now hahahah. So now I have to drive it vicariously through him until I can drive it for myself. Dante I have a Q about w/m, I'll PM you.

I can vouch for the car.  The previous owner, Erik, is a buddy of mine here at flight school.  I don't think he bought it stock (can't remember), but he did do most of the work to it.  He decided to go water/meth after seeing it on my jetta and talking about it.  He said he just needed something more.  He ended up going with a vast set up and I run the snow performance kit that nate hooked me up with.

Anyway, in a pinch, you can make your own reliable batch from any place that sells plain windshield washer fluid (not the stuff with antifreeze or debugger) and the yellow bottle of HEET.  Just mix 3 bottles of heet with a gallon of the washer fluid and you've got a good mix.  You can get both at any autoparts store or walmart.  and if you're in a place where a walmart isn't in existance, then you have other problems.

For a permanent, more gooder batch, I pick up an x amount of methanol from the local dude that sells race gas and an x amount of distilled water and mix them together 50/50.

Another buddy uses rc car/helicopter gas (found at the local hobby shop) because he couldn't find a dude that sold race gas and he mixes that with the distilled water.  No issues.

In a REAL pinch, you can just run straight up windshield washer fluid.  It is still mixed approx 70/30.  70% water, 30% meth. You're just not gonna have the best effect, but it'll help, especially if you run a 100oct file like I do.

Thanks Mark! BTW he said he'd kick you in the nuts for me....

It's a VAST w/m kit, car came with K04's when he bought it, but he has done alot and put alot of $$$ into it.

I have to figure out the best thing to do now. If only my bro was more into cars.

haha, he would say that.

I coulda swore it was devils own.  musta been another buddy that went with DO.  I dunno, I've sold a few people on w/m down here.

I'm not even gonna suggest where to go from here...honestl y, it's fun the way it sits, so it's really what YOU want now.  However, I would suggest not doing anything with it until you get home and can appreciate what Erik has done, and then start making it your own...but that's just me.

In other notes, the little 'club' here at Ft Rucker isn't big, but we've got some interesting stuff.  Obviously Erik's s4 has been around.  There's another dude that bought APR's grey/black mk5 GTI w/ stage 3.  Another dude has taken his mk4 GTI and put an r32 drivetrain in with a bt setup (I wanna say 3071, but it might just be a 2871).  There was another guy with a nice looking audi.  I only saw it once, so I might be off on my memory..but it was an almost murdered out a4 (maybe s4) b8 with exhaust.  Very clean, sounded sick!  A couple mk4 GLI's.  There's word there's I guy with a sleeper mk3 around here, but I haven't seen it.  One guy has acquired a bunch of euro vw parts when he was stationed in germany and redone the interior of his mk4 gti..it also looks real clean

Oh I was just referring to the w/m situation, the bro said he was out, and I've been trying to think of the least comlicated way for him to run some. I told him until he gets something in it to go easy on it, especially on hot days. I need to get it VAST tuned, been talking with Dante about that... sound like the best thing to do now is leave it since I'm not there to do anything about it. Sucks. I wish there was a shop nearby him to take it to and have them handle it.

That .: swap seems pretty complex!

um, if he can't figure out how to mix 3 bottles of heet w/ a jug of washer fluid, then I'm not sure he should be driving it...I jus sayin.  ::)

Yep, he spent a lot of time and money on it.  He loves it, but he says, "honestly, I don't think I'd do it ever again. I'll just go with an R"

For what it is and the amount of time and money (as Mark can attest to) that the previous owner put into it, I got a very good deal. Still go the Mk2, It's been kinda on the back burner for a while since I wanted either a stg 3 S, or a Z06. Not sure the future of it yet, Barry has 18 other projects at any given momen... I was just going to keep it so I have something to drive when I go to MD. And now I have the truck and the S for when I'm in GA.

You are gonna live in two places?  When are you supposed to get back? I suggest you slim the herd cheif. That mkii is gonna be a money pit if you want it running good and right. But I guess you could use that truck to tow it around when it breaks down. Lol.

You know, for all the shit you guys talk about that car, I'm going to go ahead and say it's prettymuch all unwarranted. For as underbuilt a car as it was, It could both sustain a beating of a driving and it's never left me stranded. Can't remember how many times I took that thing to durango(5.5 hours one way), and again, never let me down. Let's not forget how it kept neck and neck with your pride and joy BEFORE it got a new turbo on it too. Stupid small shit on the car broke here and there, but again it got me where I needed to go. No complaint at all. Barry I don't understand why you say anything bad about it at all. Seems like every time I talk to you about it you want to know what I want to do with it because you want to "rebuild" it. I don't know if you want me to dump you with 5 grand or what, but doing that doesn't make a car any less of a piece of shit, it just makes it a more expensive piece of shit.

It may have not left you stranded for the few times you drove it out there, but eventually it would have or maybe even around town at some point.  It seemed like it was burning more and more oil over time and it needs a rebuild pretty bad.  While it certainly can be a nice car, and it was/is quick, it still has some issues that need to be worked out and a rebuild at the least. Hence my money pit comment.  If you just got an s, that car is gonna become obsolete to you.  Might as well sell it to barry (if he seriously wants it) and put that money towards the s or paying off your truck.  Plus like I said no point in having 3 cars considering you cant even drive them yet.

didn't/doesn't burn oil that bad

it was more than a few times I drove it out there.

I put more miles on that car in year than you've put on yours since you've owned it.

I'll have as many cars as I fucking feel like.

Whats amatter with 3 cars? If you can afford it why not. My 3 cars might not be as nice as matts but i like having the 3. Its nice having a truck for obvious reasons. A car to build (my mk3) and a built car that one comes out for special occasions (my mkiv)

I do think that having to pay full insurance on a car i drive once every 4 months is stupid though. I hate insurance companies.
