Well, wasn't expecting much today, but I did want to get the tires on the rims so as I headed out the door to put them in the truck, my doorbell rang.  Low and behold it was Dennis (my UPS guy) with possibly the last shipment I'm getting of parts.

From German Auto Parts:

And inside was everything I needed to do the front suspension and the rear ~ I should say, for now.  What you see is a new set of control arms w/ rubber bushings (doing rubber for comfort, the coil-overs will be stiff enough on their own).  New ball joints, and new rear poly bushings (for the rocco rear axle beam).

Cool.  I'll have something to do this weekend.  Even more reason to get the tires put on the rims.  After loading them up, I took a short drive to the local discount/used tire shop.

They'd mount, balance and put valve stems in for $40.  Good enough ~ especially when my old truck gets 8mpg its not like I'm going to drive all over time to look for a cheaper price.

Unloaded.  They needed an hour...

... I gave them two.
Loaded back up

Looking pretty decent.

Back at home I couldn't help but stand the new wheels/tires up to the old.

Ya that's a little...

...like 2.5 fingers (roughly 2" lower).

Or in other words, I will have lowered the car 1" just by changing the rims/tires.

Wheels and tires safe in the garage...

...with any luck this weekend we'll see a bit of a transformation on the Jetta.

PS ~ Didn't someone want the old rims and tires?

I was tossing around the idea for nostalgia reasons (they're the exact same type of wheels that use to be on my GTI) but I've got too many sets as is. I think Dan (Goes by Mr Ghia here on the boards) would like to pick them up off of you though.

Honestly, it'd be nice to trade you (chris) for your old 16v distributor.  Can you and Dan work that out somehow?

Nope. I'm keeping the engine complete for now, and a 16v distributor is worth a bit more than those wheels.

Will have to do that.

Got a little update.  Nothing big, but something did come in yesterday.

Speaking of Vortex, a guy over there was parting out an old GTI, I was able to pick this up for $60 SHIPPED!

Yup, its the stock 83-84 GTI front airdam.

The only problem is that it doesn't match the Jetta.  GREAT ~ now I want to get it painted!  :banghead: (No I'm not talking about JUST the airdam  ;D)

That concludes the shipments for the Jetta.  Wife and I are re-fi'n the house and need to spend some money finishing up the two bedrooms in the basement that we started.  The thought it that it'll raise the value of the house and we'll have a better loan-to-value ratio.  Problem is, there goes my $$  ~ double- :banghead:

You could always swap out a rabbit double round front end... then it will fit perfectly

HA!  I posted it first, so YOUR copying me!  HA HahAHahahahaha hah.........  I think my jetta will eventually end up 08 BMW silbergrau metalic pearl, but I'm telling you its really really tempting to spend a weekend priming/sanding it just to have an inexpensive re-spray done to it.

Just don't go buying some RML snowflakes too.

I can even paint mine red, then buy Gregs chassis for the title!  Then we can have exact matching ones, with wrong titles too! :o

 :t-down: ~ Na....

I am picking up an 87 GLI for its guts.

The guy who was supposed to buy my motor/trans, backed out.  Engine swap will be on hold for a little bit.

What leaks?

because the dizzy is mounted horizontally, oil can leak around the shaft into the cap.  Mine did.  I found a DIY and a seal and fixed it.

Updates updates updates.... honestly, there's not much to report.

I did get a visitor.  Since I had my new tires mounted it was time to change them out, but between selling this, and working that....well, you all know how that story goes.  But Dan, an old buddy of mine, happened to need some tires, so I let him take the Jetta's old ones...provide d I didn't have to get off my lazy  :o

Dan...and his cool $400 mk2 GTI.

Oh, gotta love the lines.... Gotta love the grill...gotta love everything ~ but the mis-matched wheels....

So he let me know when he'd be in town, I just make the facilities available.  Tires coming off..

Tires going back on..

I know how you guys love the dramatic angles.  Hows this?

My new tire looks flat.  Jetta looks more lifted than before!

Something wrong here...

Oh that's better.

More coming

Well, how does Dan's GTI look with the new digs...

Not bad, but I like it better at this angle.

Here's me trying to get a good shot...

Getting lower makes it look better!

Then I thought I'd take a few more.  We didn't have any old buildings, or cobble-stone drives...but I have a few old Scouts hanging around out back!

Okay, enough of that.  I've got a little more to post, but perhaps later.
