It should be able to work with MS1. The menu setup is a little strange with MS1. I think the menu you're looking at is the WBO2 calibration for MS2. MS1E is a little different. ExtraEFI has a decent writeup for setting up a wideband in tunerstudio. You have to set yours through project properties.

haven't tinkered much with it in the past few days, been doing title stuff for a couple different cars. looking at the address on the previous registration, i found this...

Just kidding! i was pissed off and wanted to move... i couldn't ever sell this thing, that would be like putting your favorite kid up for adoption... Anyway i figured something really really friggin stupid out. megasquirt does nothing in  regards to the spark on this car. i used a digiII distributor with a cis ign control module. NO SPARK ADVANCE whatsoever. don't know how i overlooked something so simple... which should i do? grab a cis dizzy, a knock box from a motronic or whatever it was that had it, or can i use this dizzy with msextra for all of my timing advance needs?

I don't remember how you had your ignition setup, but if MS isn't setup for spark it's not hard to change it up to handle spark. The best way to do it is to run a Bosch BIP373 coil driver on the board and directly drive the coil with it (ie, remove any external ICU or MSD type box from the system). The BIP costs all of $8.50 and is sturdier than any external ICU you might want to run. Trying to run a CIS-e knockbox (motronic had everything integrated with the ECU) is just going to add complication to your system and still not let you mess with the timing table.

What board version do you have? V3.0 is easy to install if it doesn't already have one in it (most do). V2.2 takes a bit of thinking to install, but it's no worse than wiring in a new radio just tinier splices. Pop the top of your case off, take a pic of the board, and post it up. This gives the details on running spark with MS1. DIY Autotune has a good writeup on setting up a BIP373 for use on a VW here
