i know he does, hes in monument tho  no time to drive up there and kinda broke till payday at the moment. bought a tranny and transfer case for the jeep today

16vs and mk3s have a different spline diameter than the old mk1/mk2 8v trannies.

Half the time I don't use those things anyways. I just center it by eye and feel. Of coarse I've been doing it that way since I was about 15 so I got some practice.

i havent looked at one, but i thought they just had dowels, i didnt know the tool was splined...

It is not splined but the nipple is too big to fit inside the clutch plate. Your ttansmission should have a smaller diameter input shaft.

hmm. well I'll try his, if not I'll do it by eye, did it in my cabriolet and drove it for 9 months. that poor car

Eyeing it is fine.  The tool only helps get the tranny on.  Once it is on, the first time you push the clutch, it aligns itself.
