Well with chris's expert help the rabbit now runs like a champ...and with some tweaks (mainly gettin the rad fan to run automatic style) itll be complete today...

at no point did I ever ever say I hate CIS :P

Turbo+CIS... meh, no direct control over timing/fuel/launch control/etc... only option was to have $$$$ in additional controllers or one single solution that does everything.  If I wasn't racing the car, I'd probably have kept the CIS.

Idle Air Control Valve...its mounted to the exhaust manifold on the back side has two vacuum tubes and an electrical connector

*intake* manifold. 

It has a bi-metallic spring inside and an electrical heating element, so that as the engine warms up, it closes off the connection inside to reduce the idle speed, but in colder circumstances, it idles higher.  Simple, and pretty robust.  Doesn't need to be there for most intents and purposes, just makes it easier when cold.

When I worked at a VW-Porsche shop (about 20 yrs ago now) we used to partially plug the lines so it had limited effectiveness if someone didn't want to pony up for hte new parts.  Made it work, pass visual if it needed to, nad run and drive fine.  Was kind of funy walking out of a Porsche shop with a wood saw heading for an Elm tree branch....  heh.
