My mk2 project..
« on: January 03, 2010, 07:44:53 PM »

So hopefully this thread wont consist of as much money spent on a VW as my blackbeast thread.. But over the next few months i plan to drop some decent mods on my mk2. Its a 91 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition. Currently has a stock 8v 1.8l. Here are some pictures to start off...

Today i test fitted a Single round setup to see if im going to go that route. If i do i will have crosshairs and a badgeless...

Car could turn out decent... Looking to do a motor swap within the next couple months and some air ride..

VR is very much in the consideration .... But i will say at this point it is not one hundred percent.

Rallye could come sometime in the future.. but for now is going to be single rounds, smoked crosshairs, and a badgeless grille w/ spoiler.

Man i can't wait to go through this car and get rid of all the rigged stuff. The previous owner jb welded the bracket for the radiator... so in the process of the core swap the radiator got damaged.

That's only because you bought them that way.  ;) The rest of us have to resurrect them from the grave. I think come DATR you'll see some decent looking mk2s around here.

And you're right Chris.... I did buy them that way.... Too many toys, and not enough pay check made sure they stayed the same as they were when I bought them....

Brandon.... give me a call and I can walk you through wiring the H4's.... I had to re-wire the headlights on the VRT and they are H4 single rounds....

Just giving it right back.  ;D It's not like you pay someone to work on your shit, you just start with a better base that doesn't need as much dumb shit fixed. My last mk2 purchase I tried to be like you and get a decent one, but I still ended up with a basket case.

Brandon, on my car for the headlight plug the white wire is the high beam (left pin), the yellow wire is the low beam (middle pin), and the brown wire is the ground (right pin). Found a pic that might help transfer that to H4.

yeah.... well if you consider the fact that I bought my Bronco in June for $7500, and then traded it in August straight across for that 16V, I'd say you need to spend a little more for a clean base to start from....

People thought I was crazy for asking $7K for the car.... well... It is what it is... Nobody wanted to play ball, so the car is still in my garage.

I wonder if that 16V twin in CO has sold yet?! I bet he can fetch what he is asking if he hold out long enough....

I was going for a GLI with a 9a motor, and they're a dime a dozen compared to a 16v GTI with a 9a. They bluebook for about $2k which was within my budget. I picked up mine for $1700 and I thought that was a decent price for what I got. I've come to the conclusion that the people before the previous owner took good care of the car but I'm led to believe that the PO didn't bother with maintenance and read from a manual written by Mickey Mouse.

VW made about 4k GTI's in 1992 and most of those are 8v GTI's. The majority of the thousand or so 16v GTIs left have either been wrecked, parted out, or have had all of the OEM parts that make them special swapped out for something else. Those reasons are why your car commands a $7.5k price tag and why its twin, even though its a touch high IMO, is asking $9.5k. That's also why my cheap ass will probably never own one and why I like yours so much.

I was just telling Dave I am going to try and sell the Cobra in order to fly out to CO and buy that guy's car...

Then I will be a little more inclined to swap a VR into mine.... all plug and play mind you, and retaining all of the OEM parts in case I wanted to return it to it's original condition.... How crazy would that be? 2 of the cleanest examples of a 92 Alpine White GTI in the country, in my very own garage....

If I got really crazy, I'd sell off some more shit, and try to buy both of his cars from him....

Eh, I'd get a clean 8v and swap in a VR if you want to go that route. It'd be cheaper and you'd get a greater satisfaction of taking a plain jane car and making it nice rather than taking a nice car and morphing it into a different type of nice car.

I have a 1990 VW Corrado with a 1996 VR6 motor. We are moving and we need to get rid of it. Rebuilt from salvage title and the motor needs wiring and ECU. $800 OBO. Please call 303-668-1569 or PM for details. Thanks, Lexie.

buy that shit... that will solve you problems and give me some seats and wheels to buy... oh and tyler needs a hood.

You are so very wrong sir. I found the motor for this car and it is in the car with harness and ECU. I currently have the built G60 that came out of this car. I am very good friends with this guy. He has done quite a bit to get the body back into the shape it is in now.
