From what I see, most of the VZW commercials are bashing the network that the iPhone is on. The original "iDon't" commercial did bash the iPhone only to the extent of showing that it isn't as perfect as everyone says it is.
Originally Apple went to Verizon first with the iPhone. They ran into problems when
neither company wanted to relinquish control of the software in the handset. The struggling AT&T was more than happy to bend to Apple's will just to get the business it needed to stay alive. For the iPhone to really shine it needs the VZW network. Up until recently VZW has had some lackluster handsets (really, only time will tell with the new Android sets and the latest Blackberry sets) and could use the iPhone to increase sales. Having the iPhone would really round out VZWs phone lineup by having a geek/techy phone (Android), a business oriented phone (Blackberry), and a fun phone that the masses can understand (iPhone).
Scott, did you get the Motorola Droid or the HTC Droid Eris? I gotta say that I'm not a huge fan of the naming scheme they've devised for the Android devices, regardless of how cool the phones are. Anyways, how's the typing on the keyboards (touch and physical keyboard)? One of these days I'll head into the VZW store (hopefully before my 30 days is up just in case) and check out one of the new droid phones out for myself, but I'm in no rush because I'm really happy with my Storm 2. I'm also really excited about this phone because RIM finally released APIs for the GPU and OpenGL support as well as announced Flash support for their browser for Q1 of 2010. It's looking to be some fun times for Java based smartphones.
