Who else is getting a Droid?

I have been sitting here for about an hour checking out all of the videos out there about this phone and I am totally sold on it!  I also have my new every two upgrade that I have been saving for a cool phone, and it is finally here.  That means I should be able to walk out the door with a $99 Droid next week... yay!

So who else is planning to snatch up one of these and are you getting the actual Droid or the Eris (the all touch screen version) ?

Depends on how well my Storm 2 works when it gets here. I've had good luck with Motorola phones in the past, but I'm getting bored with them and want to try out a Blackberry. I'm also really digging my wife's Tour. I'm curious to see the new Android 2.0 powered VZW phones in person though.

Just let your contract run out or break it, and get the iPhone... no Verizon phone will eve be close to comparison to the iphone.... well, until Verizon signs a real deal with Apple....

The only things the iPhone has on other smartphones are games and a slightly better browser that still lacks Flash support(fancy web based games and videos) like the rest. It can't multitask, just now got a camera (minus flash), has shit for security, and is on AT&T with it's shitty coverage. Android phones are going to blow the iPhone out of the water in just software development alone in the near future, partially because the developers won't have Apple twisting their arm behind their back. For a smartphone the iPhone really isn't that good. The only reason that it's popular is that every trendy person with a Moto RAZR moved to the iPhone when it came out. If you want to compare something to the iPhone you really need to stack it up against other handheld entertainment electronics like the Nintendo DSi or the PSP.

I have no reason to compare this thing to an iPhone, and I don't plan to.  I am on Verizon, I will stay on Verizon and I have been waiting over a year for something decent to come to the party.  This is the first phone in a LONG time that I am actually a little bit excited about getting my hands on!

My only concerns right now are getting to the store early enough on the 6th and where can I get a car charger!

yeah.... and good thing for you and me Scott, is that there is only one Verizon store in Frederick, and it sucks!


I waited over an hour to get my Dare replaced when I dropped it and the screen broke.... Let me know how your Droid day goes!

It doesn't multitask. It saves the application you're working in and closes it when you "switch" to another app, which gives it an appearance of multitasking. It makes it difficult to have features like push email and instant messaging work reasonably well.

Just order online. You get free next day air shipping and you don't have to deal with mail in rebates. You just have to wait an extra day which is worth hanging onto the extra $100 you'd have to dish out for the MIR.

Dont compare it to iPhone?  The ad sure fuckin does.  I tell you this much, I have no desire for a nother phone after getting my iPhone.  Had the thing over a year and will just upgrade to the 4th gen next year when they make another new one. So many haters but once they get their hands on it, they cant put it down. LOL

the storm 2 looks the same as the original, but it has a faster proccessor. I have the storm and love it, but do with it was a bit faster, so the 2 looks like a contender to me... but im switching to the droid for the simple fact that i dont want to pay an extra 30 bucks a month to have my emails go to my phone... :t-down:

The storm 2 has an improved touchscreen with electromechani cal pressure sensors at each corner to replace the single button under the screen and also adds mutli-touch capabilities. It also has double the RAM and wifi. Other than that it has the same guts. It's an improvement on the original much like that of the iPhone when it went from the 2G to the 3G model.

Going to the Droid won't fix the $30 data plan (not just for emails). Any smart phone, whether it's a WinMo, Blackberry or Android, requires at least the $30 data plan. You use to be able to get a smart phone with a pay as you go data plan that didn't have a monthly fee, but VZW doesn't offer it anymore.

I stopped by my local Best Buy yesterday to check out the supposed test dummy, but my store did not have it.  I was hoping to see the keyboard in real life, but I guess I am waiting 2 more days.

Verizon opens at 7 am if you want to get your hands on a Droid.  I also found out that if you order online you don't need the mail-in rebate.  I got my Droid for 99 bux after the online discount and my new every two discount.  I also picked up a car charger and a GPS mount, that was an extra 50-sumthin bux total.

except that you have to sign up for a mandatory 30 a month data plan which they say is "unlimited", but is actualy limited to 5Gb a month... I was looking at going to it so i could save some money and drop my blackberry service, but that wont save me shit.... Oh, and if you want to use an exchange service, that 30 plan will cost you 45...
