1987 Jetta GL Wolf edition.  Power windows, Working A/C, with the 1.8 SOHC MONSTER!


Now a quick question;

What the hell does this lil air pump do?  I was messing around with the driver door locking/door handle area and i heard this thing go off.  I don't think I have auto locks...

alrighty, well the driver door has a white and blue actuator with just an electrical connection and when we actuate it the pump in the trunk goes off.  could you explain this system to me as to what its used for?  I'm not tracking...

There are vacuum actuators on the other three doors and the trunk lock. When you lock/unlock the drivers side door it kicks the pump on. the pump sucks/blows into the vacuum line that runs to the vacuum actuators which causes them to lock/unlock their respective locks. If the other locks aren't locking/unlocking there's a leak in the system somewhere.

Thanks, you're dead-on with Money Pit.  After going through all 4 doors I've discovered more vac. line leaks related to the pneumatic locks  I'm not opening that can of inconvenience.

Anyways, depending on if this thing will pass emissions (I’m betting on Southcross’s ideas and magic to get it passable) I’ve been busy spending money on this thing in the mean time to make it more DD friendly;
I’ve got the following on order/installed so far;
•   Shift boot
•   Reverse Lock-out Gate with rivets.  Yeah, there isn’t one there which makes reverse and 1st Gear very friendly and scary.  
•   Chrome Exterior door handle cover
            o   Lock Carrier I didn’t realize how easy it is to break into these damn things.
            o   Door handle rubber spacers
            o   Interior Door Grab handle W/ Cover
•   HVAC and Temp Control Levers
•   O2 Sensor
•   Alternator
•   Battery
•   Various Vac. Lines
•   Hood prop catch

So with that I'm about $350 more into this car over 4 days with a long way to go...

Pete.... if you are trying to make the car more driver friendly, you should look into a USRT shift linkage kit.... It's around $200, but WELL worth the money. I love how it feels in my mkII.... If you dont want to spend that kind of cash, replace the shifter bushings for sure.... You should be able to get a complete set off of parts4vws.com or techtonics tuning.

Clean it up, do some maintenance, lower it a little with some decent wheels and you're golden.

As for the shifter deal.  If you don't want to spend $200 ...  fresh bushings and a weighted OEM MK3 shift rod is the way to go in my world.  That's what I run on my Jetta Coupe.

Pete, if you haven't heard shifter bushings are worth their weight in gold. I think you should get some.

lol, yeah it was a bit much.  But good news!   It passed emissions today!  HC's got down to 2.26 (limit is 2.50) and the NOx got down to 3.66 (limit is 4.00).  All thanks to Ed!

It would be the other way around.  You call up Verizon, you say you have a phone (my unlocked phone) and you want to transfer your AT&T number to Verizon (Helio)

the problem is, Verizon would want to put me on a "contract", and without going into the whole story... that won't happen
