Need a 8V head? or mk3 2.o..........

So today it seems that my number 4 fuel injector had been basically half ass working and had someo how worked  it's self out of the fuel injector cup well i'm pretty sure cyl#4 over heated and is now dead so i'm looking for a head and possible another 8v motor , i just had one in my garage 2 weeks ago damnit :banghead:

 So after thinking about it and talking to the wife , i might possible look into a 2.0ltr swap out of a mk3 , what i don't know is what i need to do to make it work ,if any of you guys have a clue or somewhere to look that would help i'm about to search the tex and see if i can find anything

been there man been there..... Id vouch to sell yah mine but it may be more trouble than its worth...headga sket is gone and it overheats once in a blue moon (or so says the broken temp guage)

So after trooling the tex and some other sites doing a 2.0 right now isn't going to work for me , since the rabbit is a daily i need it back up and running with in  a week  and too do the swap right i'd take a good month of weekends and what not but it diffently not as hard as i thought it would be. i'll stick with a 8v for the time being

I think you can use an aba bottom end if your head is good  If the head is bad, ugh, I dont know.

You can, but if you're looking for a fast swap, it's prolly not it since you need to order some parts and fab a dp. Check Snoopy's thread for more info.

Got the 2.0 ABA yesterday, have an MK2 8v head going on the ABA...so... the whole old motor is going into the dumpster...

Well i got everything off the  motor minus the exhaust , motor mounts, and fuel lines not bad for two nights of about 3hours work tonight the motor comes out  :t-up: . the block is good but the head is toast , so i'll be rebuilding this one or throwing it in my jetta and let someone else deal with it.

Well car is running great minus a higher then normal idle, but when i went to drive it i'm not getting 1st or 2nd gear :banghead: , so tonight i and hopefully dave will be trying to figur that out , along with getting my exhaust figured out it's seating about a inch to the rear now ???

the gear issue is weird feels like there's something keeping it from moving all the way over , on the tranny the lever moves allthe way thru the gears no problem but when all the linkage is onit it wont go into gear, my exhaust is seating all caddy-wompass so i'm wondering if it might be pushed up against the bottom of the shifter , i really hope the tranny isn't fucked up that would be very disapointing.

Can you get reverse?  Sounds like you need to adjust the linkage:

so dave came over and we got the linkage figured out it was out of adjustment , it's notchy as hell but i'll get use to it atleast till i get all new bushings and what not to rebuild it , and the cabby really hauls ass now .

 the idle is still kinda high around 1400rpm which it needs for the cam , so i'll live with it  for now it runs and drives

idle screw is all the way down i think i got a short screw init i'll chaqange it at some point , drove it all over the springs today runs well plenty of power now very pleased

Its probably leaning out on top because the AF is good at idle and lower RPMs. Thats one of the flaws with basic. We could figure out a way to wire up CIS-e again or even something newer, OR you could just shim the dizzy and get more fuel pressure. The only thing is, in stop and go traffic, the richer bottom end makes for horrible gas milage.  Glad to hear you even have it running better! And about the idle, I am pretty sure the ISV or Idle control valve or whatever is bad. Since I deleted all of that mess on my truck it idles better than ever before... Thats just running on idle set scre and timing. You just have to pump the pedal some when starting... no biggie there!

yea man it's running like a scolded dog , i can't wait to see how see runs down PCH i'm thinking traction migh be a issue just sayen ;D considering i scarred the shit out of my self down  union taking a turn and slammed it down into 2nd and had the front pretty keep going straight good times ;D
