That's what I gathered from his description -  Rustoleum satin white paint ....

Never heard of them, then again I'm not real connected with the scene out here.  All I do is work, sleep, and go fishing

The guy is saying he's taking a loss on selling it, which is just ridiculous. I did the math and I just don't see it. The guy couldn't even bother finishing to stick the little bits of the interior back in or secure the front bumper. Sounds like a nicely done swap though, even if they did use the crappier version ABA.

when i sourced the motor, i was looking for the newest lowest-mileage one i could get. an obd2 car came up at rs with only 40k and i snagged it. worked just fine. the car may have over 200k, but the motor probably doesn't. i swapped the 40k motor in when the car had 190k on it. i wish i hadn't sold it. it was a great car. the three rattle can paint jobs its had doesn't do it justice (although the current white looks pretty good in pictures). it was always a solid car. nate made a lot of improvements when he had it and so it seems the current owner as well.

That's cool, everyone's entitled to their own opinions. I'm sure eventually someone will pay what you're asking, but I just don't see it. Then again, I think all of CO is insane with their mk2 gti asking prices. And I've never believed that you can break out a calculator, add up your receipts and get a price value. Nice build thread tho.

Sure, you're entitled to your opinion and you're free to express it.  I want to make sure that everyone here is clear that you have an opinion about a quantitative amount of money invested in a car that you have never seen or driven, in it's current form.  That, I think, is what's insane.  I have a lot of interest in the car at the current price point and so I agree with you that I will get it.  If you don't understand the car at that price point then let me break it down for you:

The car was built to be driven.  Sure you can put it in a show but it's not going to win anything; if you're at the show to win a trophy or to check your hair in the reflection from the paint then this isn't for you.  This car IS FOR YOU if you enjoy more speed than 90% of what's on the road, if you like parking close at the grocery store or Walmart without fear of door dings or shopping carts, if you like driving long distances without blue tape all over looking like a bit of an ass, if you like a good looking mk2 and the oem recaro experience and I could go on.  Whoever does purchase this will have similar wants from a car as me.  I wouldn't want a mint 92 16v GTi for this price- it would be far slower, not nearly as reliable and I would be intimidated to park in ANY lot.  If your dream mk2 is a factory 92 gti 16v then you're a priest at a strip club.

I'll be driving my vr6t if I come down for datr.

Wow dude, settle down. I didn't realize for $5.5k I'd be getting a car with a body I wouldn't give a shit about, that could get paint chips fixed with a trip to Home Depot and came with "the oem recaro experience". I stand corrected!

Actually, I hate 16v's. I'm all about the 8. And oem=boring. Unless we're talking a rabbit gti, which I think are fantastic right out of the box.

Good for you.   :t-up:  I prefer a fast vw for the same duty and most vw enthusiasts do to.  That's why the gti is for sale on an enthusiast website and not craigslist.

well i applaud you for that :t-up: , and i drive my 84 daily and don't care where i park and i belive and have been told it's one of the nicer MK1 n the area  but what ever, i do how ever find it funny you just recently joined the site and seem pretty butt hurt over what pep are saying about your car, i think most of us feel your trying to capitalize on the work of someone else not to say you didn't put work into the car i read your build thread and it is a sweet car but to much $$$ and after living in cali and seeing the cars out there for half the money and are worthy of being a daily driver and being a show worthy car ,   i'll wait to buy a show worthy car in cali for half the price.

good luck with the sale :t-up:

In case you're still wondering I'm not here to sell the car to anyone.  If anyone here was really interested in the car instead of talking shit about it then they would have bought it when Nate had it for sale for such a reasonable price.  I knew when I decided to sell it that I wouldn't post it here because people would think they knew what they were looking at and would whine and squeal and moan and assume it's the same car painted white for $1900 more; I've seen the same thing on other boards and it's common knowledge that it's tough to sell a car back into a community even after spending $5000 more on the car and asking another $2000.  That's why it's not advertised here.  There are those audacious individuals in each community that like to look like they know what they're talking about infront of their buddies and cut down the price because their expert knowledge (these people are always looking for people to pat them on the head to tell them how smart they are) and experience with these cars inspires them to protect those who don't know as much.  Continuing to kick your own self in the face when I've called each of you out on not having a clue about the recent changes to the car makes you look like a stubborn ass, not all knowing and cool infront of your friends/community here.

In addition, sandwiching an underhanded insult won't prevent me from responding to it.  Find this funny: Read your posts before I joined/posted and talk about butthurt.    Capitalize on someone elses' work?  Have you checked what country you're living in lately? Hello, this is America.  Here's a life lesson: You're DAMN right that's how this country and most of the world works.  If you haven't figured that out yet then you're living in a fantasy world, probably near the poverty line, but a fantasy world none-the-less.

My question to you and the other passive-aggressive user here that thinks they know this car because they saw it a year ago at a couple shows:

How much precisely, to the cent, do you think I have into the car if you think I'm making money at $5500?

Edited for typos...

Well i most likly know what your refering to by being butthurt in my pat-post history , you haven't a clue since your not from this area nor do you know the personal relation ship with pep i have had arguments on here with , also to say i live next to the poverty line isa  bold statment , no need togo go into what kind of money i make let's just say i live comfortable and working for the federal goverment is a good gig , just cause i don't dump money into my cars dosen't mean i don't make any,

now i'm not one these guys who talks shit on the internet and acts all nicey to your face in person , so don't be mistaken for that and to say a i live in a fantasy world
i don't think so brother you sir live in one of those , i like others on this site  do know what america is about i have spent my time,  along with others fighting door to       door for said america and continue to do so.

and your not the only person selling a VW/AUDI in this state who seems to think that there worth big $ money.

and like i said before good luck with the sale.

I didn't say you lived next to the poverty line.  I was making a generalization that people that don't know how money is made in this country tend to be those near the poverty line.  You may or may not be one of these people.

It's definitely a fantasy if you don't think people make money off other people's work in America.  This was in response to the statement that you and others feel this is what I'm doing; I'm saying "duh, this is what people do in this country".  A military service history does not make you an expert on all things American or economics.  It does prove your dedication to your country, which is not even remotely close to the topic of conversation here.

$5500 is big money?  No wonder this is so back and forth! Find me another car that runs under 14 seconds in the 1/4 mile and is for sale with widened BBS RM's and a seperate set of track wheels and tires for under $6g.  Good luck to you!  Let me know how it goes! :)
