If you want "real" oil filtration... buy a Canton Oil Filter... 8 micron filtration cartridges and last 3x longer than our spin-ons ;)

reguardless, i'll take a group IV (ams) over a group III (mobile) any day.

mobile 1 is fine if you're changing at short intervals (3 or 5k) but in my experience costs as much or more than amsoil.

also, amsoil is vw cert for 502.00, 505.00, 505.01.

Can you explain group IV and group III?  Not familiar w/ the term...

Group I base stocks are composed of fractionally distilled petroleum which is further refined with solvent extraction processes to improve certain properties such as oxidation resistance and to remove wax.

Group II base stocks are composed of fractionally distilled petroleum that has been hydrocracked to further refine and purify it.

Group III base stocks are composed of fractionally distilled petroleum that has been hydrocracked to further refine and purify it. Group III base stocks have higher viscosity indexes. Group III base stocks are produced by further hydrocracking of Group II base stocks, or of hydroisomerize d slack wax, (a byproduct of the dewaxing process).

Group IV base stock are polyalphaolefi ns (PAOs).

in many countries it isn't permitted to market mobile 1 (a Group III) oil a synthetic, because its a blatant lie..... why mobile 1 can charge more for an oil that isnt a true synthetic, i'm not sure.

interesting... III is just "premium of the premium" mineral based oils?  Where as normal "conventional" oils are II or I?  How does Mobile1 get away with calling themself a "synthetic"?

I bet they aren't the only "synthetic' that goes by that term then.
How do you find out what group they are?  Does it say so on the bottle?

Amsoil is not certified by VW. It probably would pass all of the tests, but Amsoil won't pay VW for the certification process.

I've attached the most recent approved oil list from VWoA if anyone's interested

looking right now... its apparently the API (who makes the certifications for oil) that keeps the "list"/breakdown of Groups:
More Wiki info:
Quote
Groups I and II are commonly referred to as mineral oils, group III is typically referred to as synthetic (except in Germany and Japan, where they must not be called synthetic) and group IV is a synthetic oil. Group V base oils are so diverse that there is no catch-all description.

having no luck finding a "list", it appears that API wants to "sell" their data and not make it publicly available

Well, they are not 505.01 certified.

FTR the testing process costs around $2,000,000 total when it is all said and done.  That is the biggest reason Amsoil will not pay for it.  It is easy for Exxon/Mobil, ELF, etc to pay this money, they are huge companies, amsoil is not.  Amsoil does warranty their oil.  If it causes a problem, they will cover the repair, of course there are stipulations, you must have the oil tested, etc....

In my PD TDI (requires 505.01) I have ran, Motul, Elf, Castrol and Amsoil.  Amsoil tested better than all of them.  i will see if I can find my UOA's for each.

If you want "real" oil filtration... buy a Canton Oil Filter... 8 micron filtration cartridges and last 3x longer than our spin-ons ;)
http://www.cmfilters.com/remote.cfm

These do not "filter 8 microns".  They filter DOWN to 8 microns.  Big difference.

They sound like great filter but I really don't know enough about them to comment any further.  I don't see any test results on their site.  These filters are also "remote system" meaning it is secondary system.  When adding a secondary system, make sure you can maintain oil pressure at proper levels.

not trying to be biased but the Amsoil EaA filters are tough to beat:
http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eao.aspx

Filters 15 microns at 98.7% efficiency, that is the best for an OEM replacement filter on the market.

I noticed that that flag and fireworks place by A1 had an Amsoil dealer sticker on the front of the building.
