« on: April 27, 2009, 09:23:14 PM »

after the denver meet i relized my car was acting a little funny i.e. making weird noise and what not. went to start my car this moring notice a little smoke... well. as the day went on smoke got a lot worse.. not its smoking while i am driving. its blue smoke. when i step on the gas it still boosts up like normal but kinda bogs down just a little. then more smoke.. any ideas??? i was told to clean the maf..but anyone else?

blue smoke means running rich i think! have you cleaned your injectors ever? i would recommend a can of B&G 44k and how about spark plugs?

it seems like your car is running rich. i would have to say bad maf or fuel pressure regulator. im going to say maf. i had to replace a maf on a bug about two months ago with same prob

what does everyone else think?

just changed the plugs today thinking it would help. and added a gas additive to the tank :t-up: :t-up: those were my thoughts. the plugs were gray and a little wet

if you keep running with this problem you will foul the plugs again and have to buy new ones.

i got confused. blue smoke is oil and black smoke is fuel. useally rings and seals go bad if the engine got hot. your bug is pretty new so cant be of age.

X2

Sounds like the seals in the turbo to me... Just wait for a few minutes and one of the 1.8T guys will chime in. I think Oliver and Mark Johnson both had the same issue, and it ended up being the turbo

that sucks man. it might just be a bad maf if you cleaned it and it ran a little better. the smoke did look a little blue so it could very well be the turbo. check up on that warenty.

1) Do you have a boost gauge? If so log your boost pressure and notice as the turbo gets warmer if the smoke increases and the boost falls, or decreases. 2) If the MAF is covered in oil or has a good amount of oil this is also an indicator of bad Turbo. 3) Do you have unusual noise not good noise from the turbo? Or higher pitch or loose bearing sound?  4) Does the car hold a good idle, or normal? And you still produce smoke. All these are indicators of a bad turbo. Real way to check is look in the turbo, or a turbo replacement. If you are able to look at the fins on the spool, look for bent/missing deformed blades.  And check impeller movement, in and out to be exact. I hope this helps, best of luck keep us posted. ???

I can't possibly imagine how a MAF that is not functioning properly will cause the motor to burn oil. burning oil only comes from bad rings, valve stems, or bearings/seals in a turbo...
