Nah, governed at 130. It was pinging off the limiter for 6-7secs, I could feel it kicking back slightly.

where you reading that off your speedo?..that isnt always accurate..
my r32 says 80.;..but my gps and 9500i equipped with gps says 76....

so i usually do close to 90 which means i am rolling 85 or so on i 25.

yeah.... the problem with 160 mph and a new beetle comes down to the simple areodynamics of it... The NB is a rolling Super Dome.... not exatcly the top finisher in the wind tunnel....

second problem is a stock 1.8t putting that kind of power down behind a 5 speed tranny.... I know you have an intake and a bad dirverter valve, but the motor and turbo itself are probably stock....

I'll let one of the more experienced 1.8t guys chime in but those are my thoughts...

disclosure..i am not any time of 1.8t expert..but... it also depends on what year it is..the later bettles...have the k03 sport turbos..vs ko3...he could have a k04 for all he knows..my pt in the other thread....was that i wanted to find out if he had ANY previous knowledge of any mods to the car....i could prob look at his motor and tell a few things..VAG com diagnostics would probably reveal something too.

While I hear ya... I am still skeptical... A quick google search for new beetle and top speed will yield figures in the 120 range... Granted, thats a bine stock 1.8t beetle, with a govenor, but at the same time, 30 - 40 MPH at the speed is a HUGE difference....

1.8t motors are all 20V as in 20 valve... my 92 GTI 2.0L was a 16 valve.... but not turbo....

Sounds like you have the K03 sport... which is the better turbo (which should account for the HP difference)

I dont know about going 158... I had my jetta up to 140 before I backed off and the gti has been up to 145 before I backed off. I think I could get mine up to 160 but I dont think it would go much further and I got a boosted vr6.

The only beetle that had the k03 sport was the turbo s. All the others had the standard k03 and 150 hp.

top speed on a GIAC chipped beetle (180hp) is 135. I had a hard time getting a 350Z to hit that.... after miles of my foot to the floor.

i also had a hard time reaching 140 in my vette and that thing is designed to fly thru the air and that was at sea level but it was a 95 lt1 so who knows

do it...i want to run somewhere when you are chipped..so that we can go up to the 7k rpm range..

that is where my car starts to romp..

it will be interesting to say the least..my buddy has a chipped...down pipe...2.0t..a nd his car is quicker than the 267 CRANK that they claim..i KNOW so...

but i would also be interested in doing a go from a standstill...e ither way i think you will take me off the line...but i may get you above 100mph.

guess it remains to be seen.
