Project Minty Fresh
« on: February 25, 2009, 02:27:12 AM »

I thought I'd share what I'm working on. A little history first.

It's a 1992 Golf GL 8v Calypso Green 4-door. I found this car in July 08 and after doing a quick test drive I had to have it. It had 94,000 miles on it. Everything worked including A/C. It must have been owned by a little old lady because it was nearly perfect. I wasn't sure on the color at first but after bringing it home I really started liking it. First thing I did was swap over my seats, suspension, brakes and wheels from my other mk2. I didn't get a pic of it in stock form, but here's some right after swapping parts:

Then tragedy struck.... after having the car but for a few weeks, someone decided he wanted my lane on the highway and turned right into the passenger front. It wasn't my fault, but I just couldn't believe the bad luck. The car was perfect...

So with the help of RS Motorsports, we pulled the fender off and straightened the rad support and hood enough to make it drive-able.

It's been sitting now most of the winter. I drive it every once in a while. For quite some time I didn't know what I wanted to do with it. I've been searching since the accident trying to find something similar, but there's just nothing out there like it. I've finally settled with the insurance company and after finding a lot of parts at the junkyards this past week, I've decided to fix it. I'm finally getting excited about it again. After being pretty depressed about it all winter, its a nice change.

Damn dude, I hate to see anything happen to such a nice looking older dub. Best of luck getting some presh parts and a new Rad support. I think she can be brought back if you can drive it  :t-up: :t-up: :t-up: :t-up:

its going to stay calypso, that's really why i'm fixing it. same white wheels i've had for years. its the third car they've been on. they started out on the gti (the one nate turbo'd). the blue grille piece is history now. it was blue because i painted the gti with ford engine blue spray paint and had some left over.

same wheels

blue

white car too - i think they looked best on a white car

i found an oem rad support and lower grille piece at the junkyard last weekend. i also cut off the frame rail from the shock tower forward. hopefully next week i'll take it to a body shop to get an estimate.

don't let the asshats insurance total the car.

adv the adjuster if they decide to total it then you'll get an attorney and sue for proper damages..... might take a year or 2 if you have to go that route.....

i already settled with the car. i got $200 less than what i paid for it a few weeks before the accident. plus i keep the car and they never saw the title. it should stay clean. a carfax may show the accident, but i don't plan on selling anyway.

i do need some help. i'm trying to find some mk2 parts and i need some part numbers. it'd be really nice if i had the software with exploded views that the dealer uses.
