GOOD TIMES.......
« on: February 18, 2009, 08:55:14 PM »

So last week ed and i torn into the rabbit and started pulling the motor to replcae it with another one, nothing fancy just a mkII gti 8v a bonus being it's the 10:1 comp motor , with less miles then the tired 8v the rabbit has init .
so everything went well till we went to put the new motor in realizing the motor mounts were trashed and the exh-mani i was going to use,  all 6 studs were trashed :banghead: but no worries i now have all the mounts put back together with poly-inserts and tomorrow at work i'm going to try and save the nuespeed down pipe and use it instead of the euro mani i had. then i should be good to get her back together before the gtg on saturday aslong as i get some help , ed , scurv ? here's some pics

YEAH!!!!  Do you happen to have a level? Maybe a small magnetic one? I just will need something to get the front camber close. Eye-balling isnt the best idea..

Sounds pretty good! While you've got everything out and a couple days, try to find yourself a fox intake mani and audi tb for a wee bit more power. 268 cams are really nice and fairly cheap as well. I think there's a volvo fuel dist that has a bigger plate and a better air intake too, you see them all the time on ebay as cai's. I think that will give you a little more power too but I forget. It's been awhile.

so the fucking down pipe i have that is suppose to work with my exhaust is oh say 4 inchs to short  :banghead: so it looks like i'm going to have toget the motor in then take it down to post and fab up a new exhaust :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: which i don't feel like doing but i guess i have to if i don't want to run a cat since with this down pipe there's no were for a cat to be put

who had a nuespeed down pipe for a mkI/mkII for sale a couples months ago?

you could just slap a pipe in until you can get the cat in. I want to get a cat back in my truck once I re-do the headgasket and the new exhaust manifold.

you shouldn't have to dick around with the mixture... since mixture is air:fuel, air flow is the same between both engines (1.8 to 1.8), so the fuel should remain the same.  If you want to tweak it, its a 3mm allen.

double check the vacuum line from your throttle to your distributor, the line seemed kind of "large" and may be leaking vacuum.

OR....

that fuel injector we used from your Rabbit, and the three from the Jetta, may not be flowing balanced... that one cylinder #3? may be flowing too much or too little

well i got home and got my exhaust  together enough to get it down to carson to weld it together , so i wanted to go around the block and see what see's got in the way of power well she had nothing a geo metro could have smoked me :'(

so i pull her in the garage and noticed that the two center injectors were leaking fuel so i pulled them with my fingers and put them back in the motor  and started it up still sounds like a subaru flat four so i know something is missing , well all my injectors are leaking

when i spray carb cleaner on them the idle jumps up  ???

and she dosent respond to me dicking with the idle adjustment

so i'm lost  i really don't want to have to fork over money on new injectors what do ya think ? and i allready got verd saying should have left the old motor in it blah blah blah

I'm not sure how good those injectors are. Your old ones should work just fine. Maybe check the timing to be sure it's good.

the problem was the heads are different... the Cabby head had shrouded injectors, the Jetta did not.  Guess can try ripping the shrouds off the other 3 injectors and swap them in.

they don't seal by the threads... they seal on the inside of the injector.  Your rabbit lines had a lot of corrosion when I pulled the rabbit injectors (plus one never came apart).  You might need to use the Jetta lines

a "matched" set isn't so much the "numbers" on them but that they are the same age, condition, and flow... the only guarantee to have matched injectors is to buy new ones.  The next best guess is a set of injectors from the same engine/car.... the only way to be sure with used injectors is to spray test them into bottles
