new brakes(update 1 new problem)
« on: February 13, 2009, 10:46:20 AM »

well this is the set up I went with. I bought ECS zinc, slotted rears, and Powerslot CRYO's front, with ECS steel braided lines and Hawk Ferro Carbon Ceramic brakes front and rear. So on Sat morning I will be workin on it. I will take some before and after pics, and let you know how they work once I get some miles on it.

i'm curious to see how you like the hawk pads. i'll need to do the brakes on the mk4 soon. i've used mintex in the past, but i'm considering others now.

Those are the ECS "exact-fit" SS line right?  I've been considering getting those as well when I redo my brakes this spring.  I'd like to hear how you like them and if they were as easy to install as they say.

Well I only pay postage to new york. After that it goes military and I dot pay anything. If you are in japan or on that side of the world you pay too la and the nothing. But any other way it would have been pricy. the fronts are 50lbs, and the back are 30lbs.  so 50$ for the front, 30$ for the back . But i have too stop right.  :P

Re: new brakes(update 1 new problem)
« Reply #21 on: February 17, 2009, 12:37:38 PM »

so here is the update. After about 45 miles I started getting a noise from the right rear only. I happens when I medium break to hard brake. Sounds like (no laughing) bump bump bump. Metal sounding. I can reproduce this sound warm, cold or hot brakes and when I use the e-brake. I rechecked all the torque settings, and install. Thought maybe the rotor was not seated correctly, an re-did both sides of the rear brakes on Sunday. Sound went a way for about a block. Drove 100 miles to my house took it to the Audi dealership on Monday where my friend is the parts Manager, and had THREE Audi dudes redo the rear brake, and all was good and they were confused too. They said never seen this before. Hub bearings great, cv good, bolts good, tip top.. sound gone, then comes back about two blocks later. called ECS and spoke with josh, and he said to swap left and right rear rotors and see if the sound goes to the other side, and test the run out on the rotor. Today Tuesday, I drive 100 miles back to where my wife is stationed at and use the auto craft center, swapped r and l . And guess what, sound goes to the the right now. They do not have a way to check the run out. So I call josh back, he speaks to his "boss" and now the story is because they are "zinc plated" that they have had "some "issues with the rear B7 zinc plated ones where they are to much plating and it will wear off in a 100 miles or so. Because the 200 I drove on the autobahn does not have enough braking to take it off but it will in time" . That is a direct quote from ECS. So granted the sound is less today then Sunday :banghead: but it is snowing here and wet and when the sound was there it was dry.  And yes I am venting, so sorry, so here are the questions, cuz I hate people who bitch and either don't have a question or solution. What do you all think? Should I send them back in hopes they replace it? Try buying stock rotors ($125 for both) and see if the issue is there? Wing it and smash it into a guard rail and build something else (my favorite)? shoot myself for the bad grammar and punctuations? :banghead:

Did you break in the rotors properly?  That could have something to do w/ it... I would ride it out a lil longer and see if it goes away. If not then look at cheap new ones or have ecs replace...
