MK2 Jetta Coupe
« on: February 06, 2009, 05:06:53 PM »

After selling my R32 nearly 2 years ago I've been driving a Kia as most of you know  ;D  Today I picked up an 87 Jetta coupe and I'm like a kid with a new toy.  I've wanted a Jetta coupe since as long as I can remember and finally found one that was in good shape for the right price about 15 minutes from my house here in Alabama.

Aside from being in exceptionally good and original condition for an 87 it came with a nice surprise.  Several years ago someone paid a shop to do a full 2.0 16V swap.  It's done right and looks & functions like a factory setup.

I've already got a long list of plans for the car and can't wait to start turning wrenches on a watercooled car again.

Here's a pic from the guy I bought it from. I'll take some more pics this weekend and get them posted up.

Yeah pretty much.  I don't plan to get rid of it.  With my current job I just don't have the time to dive into it like I need to.  I'm also trying to move back to Arizona later on this year so I don't want to have it torn all apart and have to piece it back together so I can move it.

Just finished cleaning up the engine bay and power washing under the car etc..  Looks like I'm gonna need to throw some new motor mounts in it and some other regular maintenance type stuff.  I plan to run stock mounts but I have my own little cocktail of stock mounts I like to use between a MK2, Passat, and Corrado.  I'm going to order all the crap through Azautohaus.com unless someone knows of a cheaper source for stock parts.

I also need a 16V throttle cable bracket (the one mounted on the manifold near the throttle body) if anyone has one laying around they don't need.

I hope to be back in Arizona by Nov.. then I'll be on my stay in over 20 years plan.
If I can't PCS back to AZ I'm probably just going to retire, I can drop my retirement request here in a couple months if I want to.

Yeah but I'm also pretty sure that the company who makes Lysholm chargers is also throwing in the towel.  I read that people weren't even able to get parts for them anymore.

Sweet mk2, are you planning an engine swap?. If I can find another clean mk2 I'll probably do a stock 24v and call it a day. I love the new meets the old theme and make it look cleaner.

I'd really like to have a set of stock BBS RM's.
They don't need to have wide lips or be in perfect shape.  Just something that can be worked with later down the road.  If anyone has any leads let me know.

Got some better pictures after I cleaned it up a little.

Need to get rid of the pinstripes and find some "big" doors
