Need Remotes for a 1996 Trek edition Jetta
« on: February 04, 2009, 12:24:36 PM »

Hey just bought a Jetta, and rejoined the group here.   The car came without any remotes.  Let me know if you have some I could buy off ya.
Thanks

are you sure the car has keyless entry?

You need to pull the headlight switch and look at the module installed inside of your dash to find out. Carlos, or Vortex can tell you what is what when it comes to keyless entry modules in a mkIII

96's didn't come with remotes... only 98 and newer.  You need to buy the whole remote module and then the fob. Check vortex for the module.

fuck that.... buy used fobs and blank swithblade keys... I can do the soldering for you and you can have mkIV swithblade keys that are functional for your mkIII

No. The circuit board from the mk3 fob wont fit in the switch blade and the switchblade wont work with the mk3 module.  I already tried to go down this road and its not possible unless you can build a custom circuit board to fit or somehow reprogram the mk4 one.

yeah.... you have to cut the mkIII fob circuit board, and then solder a few pieces of wire into it to make it fit, and function... which is why I offered to solder for him

so what is the point of the little red light by the driver's lock??  does it just blink if you lock the doors before you get out?

you car still has an OEM security system.... you just have to arm / disarm it by using the key in the door...

If you ever have the luxery of breaking both of your lock cores out, after you lock the car, you will discover the effectiveness of the security system...

Ask me how I know  ::)

Unfortunately I think I have that issue with the drivers side... the lock spins with the key... super isn't it??? yeah dead sexy.  Anyway, want a way to lock the car without having to reach across from the passenger side and ghetto locking it... seems to not like it if you try and hit the lock button and leave from the drivers side...

Super... sounds like a ton of fun, I got what you would call a "special case" jetta... yeah... had APC stickers all over it with little gay pink caps on the locks and the valve stems... the 14" steel rims with "crome" caps was icing on the cake... this is going to take some work... but runs well and seems sound in the mechanical side...  May be on here quite a bit though.  Thanks for the heads up on the handles.

only cool pic I had on the comp here, thougth why not... I spent a better part of my life as a mindless army clone...
Besides, now I'm a defesne contractor... thats alot better... right?   :banghead:
I used to be part of the group a few years ago, hung out with Gallep and had a lifted topless land rover and an A4...
Old screen name was R0VER I think... long since vanished.
Last gtg I remember we all met way out north east at someone's house and had a good time.
Long story short... just dig it I guess.
Good to be back though!!!!
